"Are you okay?"
Anna asked her best friend. The silence was too much for someone who can't stop talking every minute.
The vibrant look on the girl's almond eyes was nowhere to be seen. It was too dull and lifeless. Anna looked behind her and looked at her friends with worry. Juan, Leo, and Katrina looked at each other.
The boy with a curly hair let out an awkward cough from his heart-shaped lips. Katrina raised her brown eyebrow and glanced at Juan. The boy gave her a knowing look before opening his lips to speak.
"Hey, she's there again!" Carmela slowly eyed the boy beside her. Sensing a response, Juan continued babbling.
"My neighbor's uncle tried to talk to the girl, but she really wouldn't move."
The others realized what Juan was doing. They chimed in the conversation, no matter how absurd the topic was, they needed to distract Carmela. Seeing their precious friend listening to their stories, they mentally sighed and continued their topic about the girl in white.
Whenever there's a typhoon, a girl in white would always appear at the pier. Some said she's Mother Mary, protecting the townsfolk from the typhoon. Others stated that she's a ghost. No one knows who she really is. A girl like her was never seen in the town. It's only when there's a typhoon and she would stand, gazing at the sea, until it would end.
"....as if she's waiting for someone."
A loud bang resonated the room. They were shocked to see Carmela stand up all of a sudden. Her eyes were wide and her body is shaking. Anna reached out to her friend, but before that could even happen, the girl ran away, leaving her things on her chair and her friends dumbfounded.
I'm an idiot!
I'm an idiot!
I'm an idiot!
The students on the hallway eyed the girl who was running too fast. Even the teachers, who were present, looked at her weirdly. Professor Amanda saw Carmela, frightened as if she's in a hurry. The history teacher called her student but it was too late.
Her breathing ragged as she stopped her tracks. Exhaustion crept to her body causing her legs to weaken. She could feel the pain on her knees but she's too tired to even bother. The sound of the waves and the earthy scent diddled around the shore. Carmela held her chest and tried to catch her breath.
"You found me." A familiar sweet voice talked to her.
"Took you long enough."
Carmela lifted her head up. The pale face of the morena girl, her black hair with brown highlights near the end, the same almond eyes and thin lips. Aside from the hair and skin tone, they really do look alike. Carmela guessed that's one of the reasons why this girl chose her.
"What happened?" Carmela weakly asked. The girl in white gave her a frown and rolled her eyes.
"Shouldn't I be asking that?" The sweet voice of the girl turned cold. Carmela felt her nervous. The girl looked at her in the eye with so much hatred.
"Why him?!" Carmela could only lower gaze.
"I didn't mean to--"
"You chose the wrong man! Why did it have to be Tora?! Why did it have to be the man who ruined my life?!"
Memories flashed into Carmela's mind. She remembered how she changed the past. How she changed the girl's past.
