"Favorite type of cereal?" Awsten asks from his chair across from mine, leaning in intently waiting for my answer.
"Peanut Butter Captain Crunch," I quip, taking a sip of my now lukewarm coffee.
"Reese's Puffs?" he says, quirking his eyebrow at me.
"God no."
Pumping his fists in the air in triumph he extends his hand to me for a high five. "That was a test, and you passed."
I hold back a giggle as the conversation dies down. The others had left us hours ago, with excuses about having other things to tend to. Meanwhile Ella was already texting me from the hotel asking me how my date is going.
"Soph?" Awsten says softly. I glance up to see him grinning happily at me. "Can I be honest with you?" I give him a nod, matching his grin without even realizing it as he continues. "I asked the guys to leave earlier."
I quirk my head to the side some, scanning his eyes while trying to fight the smile growing on my face. "You did?"
He nods, face flushing some. "I- uhm" he clears his throat. "I'm so bad at this," he says as he awkwardly chuckles. "I wanted to have some quality time with you."
"I'm worthy of quality time with the Awsten Knight?" I say dramatically as I fan my face a little.
Awsten rolls his eyes, letting out a small chuckle. "Honestly, you're worthy of a lot," he mutters into his cup as if trying to keep the comment under his breath, but I hear it plain as day and it sends a wave of electricity through my body and my cheeks heat up.
"I wanted to have quality time with you too," I say sincerely.
"I'm going to say something right now and I don't want it to ruin anything," he says suddenly getting serious as the grin on his face fades into a look I'm unfamiliar with.
"Okay?" I say, fidgeting in my seat some.
"I like you," he says matter of factly.
"Is that it?" I question, studying his face carefully.
His brow furrows together, looking up at me again. "Did you hear me just now?"
"Yes," I grin, nodding my head as I stand from my seat.
"Oh God, I fucked this up," he groans, putting his head in his hands. "It's cool if you don't want to talk to me after this, I get it."
"Awsten," I sigh, grabbing his hand that's currently covering his face so he can see me. "I like you too."
His eyes open wide as he looks up at me. "Wait, you do?" He asks, standing up abruptly almost pushing me backwards if he hadn't looped his arm around me.
"I mean, I flew to Paris for you," I nodded, a smile spreading across my lips.
"You did," he nodded in agreement, his arm not leaving my side. "So why are you suddenly rushing out of here?"
With my smile seemingly plastered on my face, I grabbed his free hand and guided him towards the exit. "I want to show you something."
"At," he glances down to his phone, "3:53 in the morning? In Paris?"
I nod excitedly as I spot Rob across the street next to my car for the night. "If we're lucky we can try and catch the sunrise."
"Sophia are you about to sweep me off my feet?" He chuckles as he slides into the car beside me.
A few moments later the Montparnasse Tower came into view just in time for the sunrise. "Come on," I beckon, exiting the car the second it comes to a stop. "We've got like 20 minutes before the sun rises."
"Is this place even open?" he asks incredulously as his eyes drift up taking in the scale of the building.
"Don't worry about that, come on," I urge, tugging on his free hand. He picks up speed and matches his stride to mine as we walk quickly into the building and to the elevator doors, no staff even giving us the time of day.
"How are you doing this?" he laughs once the doors close, just the two of us inside.
"If you act like you belong somewhere, people don't question you. Plus, you can always ask for forgiveness instead of permission," I grin with a glint in my eye.
"I never took you for the spontaneous type," he says, leaning against the wall as we continue to climb the floors.
My cheeks redden some as I turn to face him. "I haven't been this spontaneous in a long time."
"Am I a bad influence on you?" he chuckles, leaning closer into me, the smirk never leaving his lips.
My stomach does a backflip as I take him all in. His hair dangles down just above his eyes, messy but effortless. Our eyes lock onto each other and it feels like some type of unknown force pushes me closer to him. "More like a breath of fresh air." It comes out like a whisper, but I know he heard me by his expression softening.
He moves closer to me so we're only a few inches apart. His eyes move from mine down to my lips and I mentally brace myself for what's about to happen, leaning in toward him to close the gap. I come to a full stop when the elevator dings and the doors open.
Awsten lets out a small sigh of defeat pulling back as he runs a hand through his hair, his cheeks tinted red. I give him an apologetic smile and grab his hand once again, leading him out of the elevator and towards the set of stairs.
"Wait we have to go higher?" he questions as he takes a quick glance out the windows.
"The top has the best view, it's only three more stories," I coax as we begin our final trek.
Once we hit the top floor, I open the doorway and reveal the view I had been longing to see. Paris as a whole with the Eiffel tower in the distance and the sun slowly beginning to rise. "Ta-Da!" I exclaim, throwing my arms out to my sides and take in the view in front of me.
"This is amazing," Awsten practically gasps, stepping closer to the window, a smile wide on his face. "You're amazing."
I take my eyes away from the view before me and turn to the lilac haired man I had flown across the world for. "I wouldn't go that far."
"I would," he nods, closing the space between us once again as his arms move around my waist. "Can I kiss you?" he whispers, looking at me for approval.
I nod up at him and bite my lip in anticipation. He's slow to move, still making sure I'm okay with his as he gets closer. Within moments I feel his lips brush mine before we perfectly mold together. My heart begins to pound in my chest while my hands seem to have a mind of their own, looping around his neck and pulling him in closer to me.
"Pardon?" I hear from somewhere off in the distance. I begrudgingly pull away to see who rudely interrupted this perfect moment, when I see a security guard now holding a walkie-talkie to his mouth.
"Oh no," I flush trying to process the best kiss of my
life and also how to explain my way out of this without causing a fuss while Awsten holds in a chuckle from beside me.
