Bea nearly dragged Samira down the sidewalk, running after butterflies and scratching the bark off trees. Since the semester was almost ending, she had a little more time on her hands, and since Bea was spending her days alone in his apartment, Harry figured it would be great for bonding.
Bea already had Samira's heart. Samira didn't expect Bea to have this much energy with her, but she felt comfort in how loyal Bea was.
The day was nearly over, so Samira was bringing Bea back home. Bea led the way, always one step ahead of Samira. Soon enough, they arrived at Harry's apartment—Samira planned to bath her before Harry got home.
Samira led Bea into the bathroom. Bea already knew what to do, leaping into the tub without command.
"I don't know how he takes care of you everyday," Samira giggled, running the tub with water.
Bea stayed calm as Samira scrubbed all the mud off her, rubbing the soap into her fur. It wasn't easy to look after Bea, but doing so made Samira feel so much closer to Harry. It wasn't just his dog; Bea was Samira's too—which was what Harry wanted.
After Samira was done, Bea jumped out of the tub and shook all of the water off herself. Bea pranced around the bathroom like a maniac, and Samira chased after; the last thing Samira wanted was for Bea to make a mess. As soon as she blew a whistle, the same way Harry would, Bea stood still.
Samira dried Bea up, calming her down. Then after eating dinner, Bea passed out on the couch.
As Samira left Harry's apartment, her phone vibrated in her pocket—it was Harry, so she answered immediately.
"Hey, how's Bea?" Harry asked.
"Oh, I just left. She fell asleep."
"Ah, perfect. Will you come by Leaf?"
Samira stepped into the elevator. She furrowed her eyebrows in suspicion at Harry's chuckle and smooth tone.
"Why?"
"It's a surprise. Wear something nice."
"Wallahi, if this is a joke—"
"It's not! Trust me, darling. I'll see you soon."
"Fine."
Samira hung up, looking down at her clothes. She was wearing a striped t-shirt and mom jeans; some parts of her were covered in mud. She definitely needed to go home and wash herself up. Harry's surprise sounded promising—for now.
She made it home, showering at once. After Samira did her hair the way Harry liked, she spent five minutes staring at her closet. Avoiding overthinking, she slipped on a black blouse and a long, colorful floral skirt.
It was before sunset when Samira took the train to Leaf. The air had a chill after she got off—as she rubbed her arms, Harry rang her phone.
"Hey, I'm almost here," Samira answered.
"How close?"
"Like . . ." Samira looked ahead, seeing the building. "A few steps."
When Samira stepped inside Leaf, everything seemed normal—she waited next to Harry's office.
