After that delightful encounter took place, I forced my leaden feet to climb the marble stairs to my rooms one step at a time, hoping the groundskeeper cleaned the glass away. I was too drained to report the incident.

The fact that a potential reign demon was currently possessing my body hadn't exactly been fully absorbed by my mind yet. But for the sake of fulfilling the Prophecy, I had to use this to my advantage.

"How exactly do you plan on fulfilling the Prophecy?" The demon suddenly mused. It made the statement sound innocent enough but I heard the undercurrent of a mocking tone.

I ignored the question and shot back rashly without thinking; which was the worst choice I could have made. "Is there something I can call you besides 'demon' to tell you to shut up."

Rich, dark laughter filled my mind. "If the lady is displeased, you may call me Tenebris."

"Dark." I snorted in amusement, recognizing the word. "Your name is the literal translation of the demonic word 'dark'."

"Yes yes. But my chosen last name is Ignotus."

Well. "Dark unknown. I take it back, it's not too bad."

"Why thank you. You are incredibly versed in the demonic language." Was that a genuine compliment? I decided to err on the safe side to avoid another snarky comment just in case.

"Yes, I'm taking the class this year." Tenebris huffed at that, unamused. Having reached the top, I started down the hall on the right and silently began counting the number of doors that led to mine.

"Where are we going?" the demon suddenly asked.

I scowled. "I am going to my chambers to sleep. Do not disturb me."

   "Demons don't sleep."

"Good. Then you can guard me."

Tenebris scoffed. "No demon would try to kill you in your sleep. That is the most pathetic way to kill someone, in my opinion and every demon's. The longer the hunt and torment, the more delightful the result."

I stopped with my hand on the doorknob to my room. "Excuse me?!"

"What? We demons excel in tormenting witches and warlocks."

"I noticed," I growled. That earned me another dark chuckle of amusement.

"Worry not, Blessed One. I shall guard you, if only to entertain myself while you lie there for hours on end."

"I'm not just going to lie there─" I sighed and decided it wasn't worth the argument.

The sun shone it's rays through my window as I opened the door, warming the place and casting long shadows upon the floor.
