"Alright, Kageyama I'm a pretty good spiker so I won't let you down. When you set to Hinata. He is going to try to hit it with all his might. I don't really care how we do it. But let's win." I said to them right before we got into our places.
Daichi was up to serve first. It was by no means a super powerful serve, but it was a serve that you knew would not falter. I got the ball and passed it to Kageyama. I was already doing my approach when it reached his fingers. By the time the ball was set to me I had already jumped. So had Tsukishima. I hit the ball right between his arms. When we landed I could see his annoyance from a mile away.
"Nice set King. Why don't you actually do your King set next time?" Tsukishima taunted. It obviously annoyed Kageyama a great deal.
"Nice try Tsukishima. Why don't you actually block me next time?" I replied back. It annoyed Tsukishima a bit too.
The game went on with the other team scoring more points than us. Mostly because Yamaguchi was actually better than Hinata. Hinata couldn't receive, hit, or serve to save his life. Yamaguchi, while not being the best, was better than Hinata. Hinata ran up very early for a spike and Kageyama set to him. Hinata actually made it through.
This was followed up with remarks back and forth from Tsukishima and I. Tsukishima finally told us why King of the Court was such an insult.
"King of the Court was a name made up by his very own teammates. It was meant to mean a tyrannical dictator and the way he played reflected that. Not caring enough about his teammates that his own teammates refused to hit his spike." Tsukishima said. I was about to respond with something witty but Hinata beat me to it.
"But that was in middle school. I'll hit anything that comes my way." Responded Hinata. Suga also gave Kageyama on pinpointing his sets.
"You don't need to see the ball. You just need to swing your arm." Kageyama told Hinata. Tsukishima was up to serve. It went to Hinata and he passed the ball to Kageyama. Kageyama did a perfect set to Hinata and Hinata made it in. But apparently I missed something if Daichi's face was anything to go by.
"He spiked it with his eyes closed." He said as I turned in shock to Hinata. How the hell did he do that?!!
"How the hell did you do that?" I asked turning to my teammates. Kageyama also looked shocked. Hinata was just happy that he hit the ball.
"Kageyama told me not to look at the ball. So, I didn't. But I loved the feeling. It's my favorite feeling in the world!" Hinata said as Kageyama and I looked at each other in disbelief.
"I didn't mean it like that! No one trusts another person that much!" Kageyama yelled at Hinata.
"I knew that if my eyes were open, I would have looked at the ball. Besides, Hasegawa has done it before!" Yelled Hinata back. And suddenly I was the center of attention.
"You actually hit a set with your eyes closed? He isn't just trying to get out of the situation?" Asked Kageyama looking over to me.
"Yeah. It was a couple years ago at a volleyball camp. Two of my setter friends had a bet that they could set good enough that the hitter wouldn't even have to try. I was their guinea pig, simply put. They both set well enough that I could hit it without my eyes open. But they both agreed, that if you could, you should hit it with your eyes open so you can see the opponents. And it doesn't matter if Hinata hits it with his eyes open or not as long as he makes the point." I concluded.
"Is one of them-" Tsukishima started before I cut him off.
"You spill my secret, I spill yours. Got it?" I asked as Tsukishima nodded and looked away, "Alright, let's get back to the game."
There was a bunch of more plays of those two failing their quick. I made a couple of more points and blocked Tsukishima once or twice. Pissing off Tsukishima is hard but super fun. It was soon 15-22 when Hinata got hit in the face with the ball. I almost laughed but held it together. It was not nice to laugh when someone got hurt. Unless they were your best friend. Which despite what the team thinks, my best friend is not Hinata.
"Here's some more advice. Go where the blockers aren't. It will make it much easier for either you or Hasegawa to get the ball through. They will either follow you or him and I will just set to the other one." Said Kageyama not really caring that Hinata got hit in the face,
The next thing that happened was amazing. Tsukishima was serving again and served it to me. I passed it to Kageyama and Hinata was already making his approach. Tsukishima and Yamaguchi followed Hinata. Hinata ran in the opposite way and made his spike go directly past Tsukishima. Scoring us another point.
