You see I was not expecting anything different today at practice. But it turns out that we have a new coach and were playing a game against the Neighborhood Association people. They took Nishinoya and Suga on their team and were about to take me when,
"Hey you! You're late! Get your butt in here we need you!" Yelled Coach Ukai. To my surprise Asahi came in. Apparently he had some bad blood with the third years. Suga told me a bit about it.
"Alright gang. Here's the starting line up." Daichi told our team showing us the white board. In the front it was Hinata, Kageyama, and Me. In the back it was Tsukishim, Tanaka, and Daichi. I was going to be the first server for our team, "Any questions?"
"Yeah, just one. Which serve do you want me to use?" I asked. He thought for a moment then turned back to me.
"See how the react with a floater and then if they can get turn to your regular jump serve. Try to aim it at Suga but keep it away from Noya." He said and I nodded. We took our starting positions and waited for the other team to serve. Once he did, it went to Tsukishima. Luckily it wasn't a super powerful serve so he got it to Kageyama. This time he did set to me. Probably because I was a bout to serve.
I slammed it through Suga's arms and scored the point. Coach and the other team looked in awe for some reason.
"Sorry Suga." I said and he said it was fine. It was my turn to serve and I did my jump float serve. I aimed it so it barely went over the net. Noya almost got it by diving but missed it. The gguy in glasses looked at me and had a face of thinking on. He told his team something that I could not here and went on with the game. I won some points with it but they were obviously trying very hard to get a set in. So I threw in a regular jump serve. Near Noya to see how he would react.
He barely made it in time. He used his foot to get the ball. Nice to know that he's a great libero. But since he used his foot, Suga's setting was a little messed up. It didn't allow Asahi to get as powerful of a hit as he normally did. But, Asahi against one 1st year setter? In no world would the 1st year setter win.
You should have seen Coach Ukai's face when he first saw the quick. It was a mix of disbelief and amazement. It was probably his first time seeing someone so short jump so high. I didn't get that amount of disbelief becaus people with my build were usually heavey hitters. Osamu, Asahi, Bokuto, and Ushijima were just a couple of examples.
Mom did tell me that I could go to a highschool in a different town if I wanted to. She made plenty of money. She's been working there for over 10 years and made enough to solely provide for a family of four. But it's only me and her, so she could afford an extra expense. I was going to decide between Nekoma, Shiratorizawa, Aoba Johsai, and Inarizaki high.
I decided not to be too far from home, so that scratched out Inarizaki and Nekoma. I knew I would have been a starter for Shiratorzawa high because their coach scouted me. He like how I had the same build and power as their ace. Said something about wanting a right hand version of him. I did not want to be seen as the knockoff and I would've if I went there.
I also toured Aoba Johsai. It was great. They had a great team and the coach did not treat me like a knockoff. They let me play in a practice game with other guys who were touring too. They were annoying. I didn't even learn their names and I don't remember how they look like. All I remember is that they were stuck up snobs. I didn't want to be first years with them. Hinata said that he was going to Karasuno and I looked into it. I decided on Karasuno.
You know, apparently when the ball doesn't come to you and you monologue in your head you lose track of time. The other team got some more points. They also had a heart to heart. They all blamed themselves for some stupid reason. It's a team game. You can't just blame one person for the entire lose. Unless it's Hinata and he literally screws everthing and one up.
"SUGA!!!" Yelled Asahi. He's not so afraid anymore. I went up to block him along with Kageyama and Hinata. I knew that this would make or break him. I had no idea if I could block his strength or not, but I didn't want to break him. He hit the ball and I soft blocked it, making sure to act like I was blown away. the ball still hit the floor really hard though. And I'm 100% sure that the adults were the only ones who realized what I did.
