...

Emmaline Harkthorn, a young shadow hunter dawned in her black gear, glared at the boy in front of her.

"William, I swear to Raziel that if you don't stop being obnoxiously loud, I will happily slap you! We don't need to draw attention to ourselves, there could be people in the floors below." She stated in a harsh whisper.

Said boy, was strolling the third corridors and testing every door they reached rather erratically. The pair alongside Henry Branwell, had split up to search a house deemed owned by the Dark Sisters.

"Oh shut up Em, I'm being practical here unlike you. Our mission was to check the place, not wonder around."

"Checking the place does not involved opening every single door like you'll find something behind it!"

William turned and rolled his bright eyes at the girl, before stopping in front of yet another door. He turned and fiddled with the door handle as he had done with each door previous, then with quite some difficulty managed to open it and took a step into the room.

At that same moment, a shadowy figure slammed what seemed to be a pot of some sort into his arm. Will let out a screech followed by a string of curse words in his native tongue of Welsh.

Emma strode in behind him, looked up at the girl and turned back to William before stating sarcastically, "Would you look at that, you found something!"

Ignoring her, Will looked up at the figure that was staring at him.

"You cut me."

Emma cast a glance towards his mere wound before adding, "it might be fatal."

The figure, who turned out to be a girl around about Emma's age of sixteen, had stepped into the light of their witch light. With wide eyes she asked William, "Are you the Magister?"

"The what now?" Emma replied as William continued the dramatics about his cut.

"The Magister, is that what you are?"

"Magister?" Will, who had finally gotten over his injury, stared at the girl in confusion. "That means master in Latin?"

"I suppose it does." The girl answered in what seemed to bewildered tone.

This lead Will into long monologue about his mastery of life that left Emma rolling her eyes as she does quite often around the boy.

"You most definitely do no need to inflate his ego anymore than it already is. William does that quite well by himself." Emma's comment resulted in a swift shoulder knock from the boy beside her.

"Are you both highly intoxicated at the moment?" The unknown girl fired another question at the pair. Said pair turned to each other and raised their eyebrows at the direct question.

"Now that was rather direct now wasn't it. I do suppose all you Americans are, isn't that right Emma?"

"Oh most definitely, met a few myself who were just the same. Now don't look so shocked there, your accent gives it away. What's your name then?"

The girl seemed utterly stunned. "My name?"

"Don't you know it?" William asked.

"You've both come and burst into my room, scaring me to death and then demand to know my name? What on earth is your name? And who are you two?"

"Herondale. William Herondale but everyone calls me Will. And this here is my second in command-" He was met with a shift shove before he finished his sentenced.

"I'm Emmaline Harkthorn. I'm not his second in command. Is this your room here? Isn't very pleasant now is it?

The pair glanced around the room before noticing the bed which had a pile of ropes tied. tot he banners.

"Do you often sleep tied to the bed?" Will asked curiously. He strolled towards the window, leaving the two girls in the same spots. As he glanced outside he turned back to the two, "Pity, we're on the third floor. We could manage the jump, but it will probably kill you. We must take our chances with the rest of the house."

"What?" The girl asked, "I don't understand."

"How can you not understand?" He gestured to the piles upon piles of books surrounding the small room. "You read books, we are here to rescue you of course, don't I look-"

A sound echoed from inside the house and into the small room.  The pair of shadow hunters made eye contact as Emma signalled that they need to go. She gestured towards the girl.

"We can take care of this later. Come along now..."

"Miss Gray," the girl answered Emma. "Miss Theresa Gray."

William had reappeared in front of the door where he attempt the reopen it.

"The door cannot be opened from the inside." Miss Gray remarked."

Will turned and grinned at the girl, "Can't it?" As he said this, Emma grabbed his stele from his belt and handed it to him. The long whiteish twig was held in his hand much like a pen as he pressed it against the door.

"You're drawing?" Theresa was confused. "I don't really see how that could possibly-"

A noise filled the room, much like the cracking of wood as the door knob spun erratically fast and continued to speed up, until the door swung open on its hinges.

"Well now you do," Will said as he pocketed the stele and gestured for Emma to exit the room. He then turned to Theresa and gestured for her as well.

"Let's go."

--------------------------------------------------------

Hello, good morning/evening/night! Thank you for choosing this book. This is my first book where I am following along with an actual book which is actually really hard. I have read thousands upon thousands of fanfics and I honestly don't know how these writers do it!

This fan fiction uses the plot and characters of the Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare, my absolute favourite series and one of my favourite writers. All rights to Miss Clare. Some quotes and descriptions may be the same as the book but as stated before all rights to Cassandra :)

My character Emmaline is owned by me alongside her background and other side characters I introduce throughout.

The title and theme of the book is based of Bastille's song "Send them off!" which is currently my favourite song so listen to as you read along in this first chapter! Hopefully more will be out soon.
