1. 1st Jan. 1848, India's first school for girls was started at Bhide Wada in Pune by Mahatma Jotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule.
2. The first big investment was in the Indian Institute Of Technology which was established in the 1950s to promote technical education in independent India.
3. Percentage of Secondary School with Computer from 44.8% in 2013-14 to 53.05 % in 2015-16. Kerala and Nagaland have 100% Secondary Schools having Computers during 2015-16. Unofficial sources predict the percentage has gone up to 66% as of now.
4. India has witnessed gradual growth in the percentage of Schools with Electricity from 2013-14 to 2015-16. The percentage of Schools with Electricity in India was 56.78%, 60.01% and 62.81% from 2013-14 to 2015-16 respectively. Unofficial sources predict the percentage has gone up to 73% till 2020
5. Literacy rate of India is 74.04% as per last
6. There are 18006 schools in India affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). It Includes 2635 Government schools, 1113 Kendriya Vidyalaya, 587 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, 13657 independent schools and 14 Tibetan

9. At Undergraduate level the highest number (40%) of students is enrolled in Arts/Humanities/Social Sciences courses followed by Science (16%), Engineering and Technology (15.6%) and Commerce (14.1%) as per 2015-16
10. St.Johns Vestry Anglo Indian School, Trichy – 1763. It was established by the British as an orphanage for British soldiers' children. Later on, it was converted into a school. It gets the name vestry as the classes were held at the St' John's church's vestry room.
