It was the championships for Casie's volleyball league. Her team had been top in the league and were so close to becoming the champions. Colson made sure to have the day completely off so he could be there to cheer her on, and Casie was basically like your own daughter, so of course you were going to be there with him.
With mere seconds left on the clock, Colson wrapped his arms around you and held you tightly, watching as the team played. You wanted to tell him he was being silly. Casie's team was so far ahead there was no way they'd lose, but you decided to let him have his tension.
When the clocks hit zero, Colson jumped up, nearly knocking you to the floor, and cheered. Casie's team jumped excitedly, hugging each other as they screamed and celebrated their win. Parents were allowed on the floor to congratulate their kids before the kids went to get changed. You giggled as Colson immediately raced up to his daughter and hugged her tightly, picking her up and spinning her around.
You both waited by the gym entrance as Casie got changed. You were showing Colson the pictures you had taken during the tournament when he looked up and said, "Oh fuck no."
You looked up to see Casie talking to a boy. He was about her age, and anyone with eyes could see that they totally liked each other. When Casie noticed you two looking, she said goodbye and raced over.
"Who's that?" Colson asked her.
"No one, let's go home," she insisted, walking past you both.
"I just want to know if I have to kick his ass," Colson said as you followed.
"Dad!"
"Leave her alone, Colson," you told him, kissing his cheek. Casie fake gagged and you stuck your tongue out at her.
You got into Colson's car and started to drive home. It was silent for a while besides the music on the radio. You could tell something was on Colson's mind but you couldn't tell If it was just the boy or something else.
"We should go out for dinner," you suggest, breaking the silence. "To celebrate Casie's win."
"My choice?" Casie asked.
"Well duh!"
Casie chuckled. Colson smiled a little, but even his smile looked distant. Casie must've noticed too, as she sighed and said, "His name is Derek. He's in my class. We're just friends."
"You better stay friends," Colson told her, although his tone was lighthearted. "You're too young for a boyfriend."
"Dad, I'm almost 12!"
"Yeah, that's too young. No boyfriends till you're 20 at least."
Casie groaned and you both laughed at her.
When you got home, Casie decided she wanted to get a shower before celebrating. While she went to shower, you and Colson went to his room. After sitting on the hard bleachers for hours, it felt good to lay back on Colson's soft bed. Colson laid down next to you, wrapping his arms around your waist and resting his head on your chest.
"What's up babes?" you asked him as you started playing with his hair. "You seem off."
He sighed. "I can't believe my baby girl is a year away from being a teenager. It feels like just yesterday she was just born, and now she's almost an adult."
You laughed a little. "I wouldn't say almost an adult. She's only 11, there's plenty of time before she's an adult."
Colson ran his fingers over your hips, pulling your shirt up a little to touch your bare skin. "Have you ever thought about having kids?"
You shrugged. "Well yeah, of course. I think most girls have at least once in their lives."
"But what about...with me?"
"I don't know. Where you have Casie, and I see her as partly my daughter now, I've never really thought about having a baby together."
"Would you ever maybe want to have a kid?"
You sat up, causing Colson to sit up and face you. You raised an eyebrow at him. "Cut to the chase, Baker. What are you getting at here?"
Colson took a deep breath and took your hands in his. "I'm asking if you want to have a baby with me."
"Before I answer, I have a question for you; do you want to have a baby because you actually want to have a baby with me, or is it because Casie is getting older? Because if it's the latter, the answer is no."
"Well yes, part of the reason is because of the latter, but think of it (Y/N). We've been together for years. You moved in like a year into our relationship. I love you more than anything. I know right now that I want to spend my life with you, whether we actually get married or we are just common law married, and honestly I've known for a long time that I want to have a kid with you."
You had to look away from Colson in fear of crying. Of course you felt the same way about Colson, and you figured things were getting serious when he asked you to move in, but you had never really talked about marriage before. You never really thought about it or anything, but part of you kind of figured you'd eventually get married.
You smiled at him. "Okay."
A smile started coming to Colson's face. "Okay?"
"Okay, let's try for a baby."
Colson's smile was so wide. He suddenly tackled (Y/N) and pinned her onto the bed. (Y/N) giggled as he began to kiss her lips, then her jaw, then her neck. He ran a hand under her shirt, letting them linger just under her bra for a moment before sliding them under to cup her breast.
"How long do you think we have until Casie is out of the shower?" Colson asked her between kisses.
"Enough time if you close and lock your door," (Y/N) responded. Colson gave you a cheeky smile before going to lock his bedroom door.
