“Shit, shit, shit, shit—SHIT!” I growled in frustration and stomped my foot on the floor while rubbing my face in agony. If missing the bus on the very important day of today was not enough, I heard water flowing below the land of my right leg where I just stomped. As expected, there was a crack in the land and I groaned again, this time, loudly.

“Not today, buddy, not today.” I turned my head sideways and on finding the coast clear, I faced the palm of my hand towards the floor and the part of my hand below my wrist started glowing, like a fire, but blue and in not more than two seconds, the crack was gone making me sigh in relief, but then I realised why I had stomped my foot in the first place and my mood instantly dampened.

Today our school was going to give the passes on first come, first serve basis for the one week camp, I didn't know to where, but I didn’t want to know, all I wanted to do was go camping, but no, I had to miss the bus today itself. I was sure the passes were going to be done by the time I would reach school because our principal clearly said that once the passes are over, they are over, no extra seat will be allotted at any cost.

Only if I could fly...

Just then, I felt something ticklish in the middle of my back and my eyes widened in realisation, “You don't let me say a single word, do you?” I rhetorically asked my own self and to be more specific, my magic.

One of these days, I was going to get mad, I just knew it.

Thanking the god that no one saw me freaking transforming into a girl with wings, I made a run for school, praying to god that hopefully I get the pass. I had never been out of the city and if I wanted to explore more of my magic, a camp to wherever would be a perfect place without my parents thinking that whatever had summoned me years back had came back.

As I had said earlier, I had stopped using my magic since I had learnt to control it and that was one of the many reasons why my parents thought that I had gone back to normal, if only they knew I was anything, but normal and yes, I still had my times when my magic won’t listen to me and just go against my back to expose me in front of everyone.

Ten minutes and a lot of huffing, puffing later, I reached towards Mrs. Jefferson’s cabin who was assigned on the duty of distributing the passes. There was a look of tiredness on her face and she already looked like she was done for the day— you and I both, miss. I fake cleared my throat to gain her attention and when she looked up with a growling face, I passed her a growl of my own.

She didn’t really think working in a place filled with teens was going to be an easy task, did she?

“What?” She snapped and if she was going to give me an attitude, then an attitude from me would she get in return.

“Pass.” Short and sweet one word answers.

“There's only one left.” I raised my eyebrows at her and asked, "So?"

“So, as I don’t appreciate your attitude towards me, I won't be giving it to you.”

What. The. Actual. Fuck?!

“You can't do that!”I walked closer and pushed my hand forward, almost demanding for the damn pass.

I never thought I’d have to literally beg someone for a cheap piece of paper.

“Watch me.” She smirked and leaned back, comfortably on her chair.

Okay, if she wanted to play like that then I’d just have to give her a taste of her own medicine.

“No, you watch me.” She gave me a challenging look to which I just passed her my fake smile and then I motioned my finger— just the way we do when we want to call someone closer— and because she was seated and my hands were below the desk, she couldn’t see what was actually happening under the desk and boom, the pass came flying towards me in seconds;

As in not literally flying as there were a few molecules of water carrying the pass, but to a naked human eye, it would be really a sight to watch a piece of paper floating in the air. Once, the pass was in my hands, I gave Mrs. Jefferson a wide grin and walked away, saying,

“Thank you for the pass, Ma’am.” Oh, I definitely didn’t miss her surprised face.

“Did the pass just float on it’s own?” I heard her whispering herself, inaudible to the human ears, but because, special powers, you know, “I think I should just go and grab some coffee, I feel really tired.”

Sometimes, magic just comes in handy.

“Now, all I have to do is ask mom and dad for permission and even though it’s going to be a hella tough of a job, I have three days to do it—” I was muttering to myself, looking like a girl with mental problems when I heard one of my classmates, Jaxon call out for my name,

“Sarah!” I groaned at his wrongly pronounced name and turned to look at him,

“How many times, Dax, how many damn times?! It’s Sera, not Sarah, Sera! You know, without an h, as in there is h, but mildly pronounced h.”

“Fine, Sera—”

“Thank you.” I interrupted him, making him give me a straight face,

“—As I was saying before I was rudely interrupted, I need your help.”

“Mine?” Wow, that was a first, okay, maybe not the first, but first from him,

“That’s what I said, I hope that’s not really hard to understand, kiddo.” He ruffled my hair and I pushed his hand off, growling at him, one of these days, I was going to turn into a damn wolf.

“Fuck you!”

“I don’t do the unholy before the holy practice, so as much as I’d like that, I’ll have to reject your offer.” He smirked at me and I punched his arm and smiled in satisfaction when he winced,

“Bitch.” He muttered and I faked a wide smile, “What do you need this bitch for?”

“I am given this damn assignment on Greek mythology and stuff by you know who,” Obviously, witchy Sharon, she loves giving us assignments from centuries back, “and I don’t have a clue as to where to find the material related to that subject in the library, so will you help me?”

“What gives you the idea that I have any clue regarding that?” He gave me straight face, again and replied, “This exact, same assignment was given to you two weeks back.” And she repeats the assignments.

“What do I get in return?”

“A seat secured beside me in the bus for the camping trip?” And before I could open my mouth, he added, “And please don’t ask stupid questions as to how do I know that you are going, I can see that ugly pass in your hand.”

“Whatever.”

“So?”

“No.”

“I have a comfortable shoulder on which you can sleep.” He pitched.

Fine, come on.”

Things I have to do for sleep.
