"Students, line up! Climb into the bus as and when your name is being called. No shouting, no jumping into the bus and no acting like monkeys, no wandering around after we land there and no pulling pranks. If you behave on this camping trip, then you will get five extra points in your finals." Everyone hollered loudly, hearing Mrs. Finn talk about five extra points, idiots didn't even realise they had to behave for that first and looking at all the adrenaline pumped teenagers, I was sure that all of the rules laid down by Mrs. Finn were going to be broken thr first thing we enter the bus.
What's a camping trip without a few shouts and jumps? Not to mention pranks, they were the most essential part of any camping trip. Who was going to behave themselves on a trip just for the sake of five points?
"Do you think anyone even listen to her rules?" Daxon spoke in my ear from behind, leaving me startled for seconds. I put my hand over my heart and breathed loudly, glaring at him,
"Jesus, Dax! What are you even doing here? Aren't you suppose to be with your friends?" I asked, looking around for his group, unlike me, everyone here had a group of their own— A group of jocks, a group of gossip girls, a group of nerds, a group of friends to be more specific and Daxon here had a group of his own. A group of friends who cared about him, who goofed around and pranked each other, who made fun of each other and teased about and had each other's back, no lying, sometimes I felt jealous of everyone around me.
Even the introverts in our school had a best friend by their sides, but I didn't, I couldn't, it was too risky. Making friends meant opening all my secrets out, up in the front. I couldn't risk it.
"Aren't you suppose to be with your friends too?" He asked and I shrugged my shoulders. I was not going on this trip to make friends and have fun, I was going there with a mission in mind, a mission to know who I really was and why did I have the powers that were only fictionary and in movies?
Who was I?
Where were my parents?
Why did they ditch me?
"I am with them." I motioned to all of our classmates surrounding us and he let out a soft chuckle, shaking his head.
"They are called acquaintance, Sera."
"I don't do friends." I replied and walked away far from him. I was totally not in the mood for interrogation and he just wanted to press my buttons. Now, I didn't mind talking to him at all, ofcourse I could use a friend every now and then, but he was a sneaky observant and it was not a shocker that my eyes changed colours like a two faced bitch does.
"I'm going to be calling the names now, so I want you all to be very quiet!" Mrs. Finn voice boomed loudly and the chatter quiet down in snap of the fingers. Even though she was 5'4 and a petite woman in her early forties, she was very strict and students feared her.
Who wouldn't anyways? She always threatened to cut down our grades.
One by one, she started calling out the names and everyone started climbing up the bus, there were no assigned seats, so there was no doubt that everyone was going to be sitting with their friends. There were two buses and one of them was already full and if we were being frank, the names calling out was just our school being formal and checking up that everyone was present because no one entered by their names, they all entered as groups and even the teachers knew it.
Soon I heard my name being called out and I entered the bus, taking the seat in the last corner of the bus— The best place to remain unnoticed and yet notice everything. Not even two minutes later, Daxon entered the bus and started looking around the bus. A huge grin appeared on his face when his eyes landed on me and he started walking towards me, taking a seat beside me.
"Guys, over here!" He shouted and called out his friends, waving his hands in the air. Soon, I was surrounded by a bunch of hormonal teenagers, not that I minded a little fun. Boys were always more fun than girls in my opinion, maybe because of the fact that they lived without a care in this world or maybe because they were just fun to hang around with, period.
"Are you excited for the trip?" He asked and I nodded my head, passing him a small smile.
"Liar."
"I am!" I retorted.
"Do you know your eyes speak?"
"Doesn't everyone's?" He shook his head and stared into my eyes and kept staring into them for good few seconds making me squirm under his gaze. I felt exposed under his stare, as if my secret was not a secret anymore.
"No, your eyes change colours more than any other ordinary person. They turn fiery red or orangish or yellowish, I can't pin point the exact colour, but they are fire when you are angry, plain red when you are frustrated, deep blue when you are sad and I can literally see ocean in your eyes when you are happy. I don't know how it happens, but it just does, it's magical."
Looks like I'll have to keep my distance from you too.
Too bad, I actually enjoyed his company.
"And what do you see now?" I asked, looking into his hazel eyes— Hazel eyes were too underrated if you asked me, it was such a beautiful colour.
"Nothing, they are just plain blue, there are no waves of excitement into your eyes like they usually have when you are excited about something, like troubling Witchy Sharon." We both laughed at the last part, but I knew this was the last laugh that I was sharing with him. He couldn't be friends with me, I was not normal and if that book was any true, then something big was about to happen, I didn't know what, but the book only mentioned something about change, a big change, a big magical change that will change my life and that change was going to take place on my birthday—
In two days.
And I couldn't be any more scared.
••••••••
And their love story ended before it could even begin.
Sigh.
