[Lucas's POV]

I never thought I'd see the day when Maya Hart was quiet for 6 hours.

She was.

I tried to talk to her at the beginning, but it was obvious she didn't want to start a conversation.

Then she fell asleep by the window.

She looked so peaceful.

It made me think that maybe, when she's sleeping, some of her broken pieces are mending.

The plane landed and rumbled to a stop on the runway. I glanced over. Maya was still asleep.

I set my hand gently on her forearm and shook her slightly.

She opened her eyes, her long eyelashes drooping under the weight of exhaustion.

"Morning, sunshine," I said with a little smile.

She gave me a weird look.

"Morning, hee-haw," she said with an eye roll.

She put her black neck pillow back in her little backpack, and I stood up to get her luggage out of the compartment.

She took it from me with a blank expression on her face and said, "Thanks."

"Ooookay," I mumbled, and we walked down the ramp to Costa Rican ground.

[Maya's POV]

I guess I fell asleep on the plane. Next to Lucas.

I can't imagine he stared straight forward for 6 hours. Which means-he saw me sleeping.

I haven't ever told anyone this, but sometimes I feel like when I sleep, some of my broken pieces are mending.

I woke up to a soft hand on my arm.

I opened my eyes; my eyelids still felt heavy and tired.

"Morning, sunshine," he said with a cute little smile.

Cute?! Plane ride must be messing with my brain, I thought.

But then I noticed he said "sunshine." It's always been my dream to have someone I love call me sunshine.

That's what my dad used to call me.

A mix of emotions bubbles under my skin, but I reverted to my old façade and responded with, "Good morning, hee-haw."

I stuck my neck pillow back into my black leather backpack, while Lucas got my luggage down from the compartment.

I couldn't help but notice how toned his biceps were when he reached up. But noticing things doesn't mean anything! I didn't like Lucas Friar.

I rolled down the ramp of the plane and took my first step onto Costa Rican soil.

I absolutely don't like him.
