I dropped Levi off at his house and headed straight to the mall. I probably should of gone home first but I really wasn’t feeling it.

I parked my truck and got out and walked in. There were never that many people here at this mall so I figured it’d be easy to find Sydney. I headed towards the movies theatre. What the hell was I going to say to her exactly? I hardly even knew who she was, maybe she’d get angry at me for coming. I had no idea what was going to happen.

As I got closer I saw a short girl sitting on a bench. It looked like she had curled her usually straight brunette hair. She was wearing leggings and a simple blousy like shirt. I slowly walked up and casually sat next to her.

I could almost feel her body flinch.

“Hey. Sydney right?” I asked very quietly.

“Yes?” She questioned back scooting a little further away.

“I don’t mean to sound creepy, or be creepy, just Mason told me to come.” I murmured.

“Why?” She asked back quietly. She finally looked at me. I noticed her nose was pierced with a small blue gem. Her eyes were covered heavily in makeup.  I guess she really wanted to impress Mason. I think she tried a little too much.

“He won’t be showing up, I felt bad, so I figured I would come tell you. So you weren’t waiting on a guy that wasn’t going to show up.” I was looking at the floor.

“Oh.” She simply said.

“I’m sorry.” I started to slowly get up when she grabbed by arm.

“You’re Ben aren’t you?”

“Most people call me Benny.” I looked at her. We were both standing now.

“Well thanks Benny.” She let go of my arm and with a smile left.

I guess that went pretty well.

I got home and threw off my boots. My dad was on the sofa drinking a beer.

“Benny, put those boots back on sir, you’ve got a horse to go feed.” His voice was deep and ruffled. Sounded like he was a heavy smoker, which he was.

I put my boots back on and went out the door. The barn was a good 5 minute walk from our house. We lived on a pretty huge piece of land. Had one horse, a couple pigs, and two cows. You’d think we’d have more with all the space but we could hardly mange what we had now. Our house was one floor and older than the barn. The barn looked more suitable for living than the house.

My mom and dad were divorced. It was just my dad and I out here. He didn’t do shit around here which is one reason my mom left. She couldn’t handle the work and moved into a condo closer to the city. I was supposed to go with her but I just couldn’t leave Moonshine. Or the place I grew up.

My dad hardly made enough money to keep the place going but somehow he managed. I don’t know how but I never asked questions.

I got out to the barn and went straight to Moonshine. I scratched her nose like always and she moved her tail with excitement. I gave her a few special treats and laid down more hay. Normally I would stay longer but I was freeing so I quickly locked everything up and left.

When I got back into the house my dad was passed out. I went to the fridge grabbed a PowerAde and then locked myself in my room.

Unlike the rest of the house my room wasn’t too bad. I liked to keep things somewhat nice. I had a few hockey posters on my wall and some old pictures of Moonshine and I when we were younger. There were also some of my whole family happy out on the farm.

I had a dresser with a small TV on it. I also had a small desk with a computer that was really outdated. My room had a green vibe to it, even though the only thing that was green were my curtains.

I sat down and turned the country radio on.

I woke up and realized it was morning. I slowly stretched and stood up. I looked in the mirror on my closet doors. My hair was even worse off this morning, the curls falling randomly. I hopped in the shower and let the hot water run down my body.

I looked at my feet as the water hit them. For some reason it intrigued me.

I finally got out and threw on my boxers and walked out.

“Dad!?” I yelled heading into the kitchen. The house seemed empty and dark except for the light shining through all the curtains.

I looked around a bit more and realized he wasn’t inside. I ran to my room and quickly put on a pair of jeans and my Troy Titans hockey sweat shirt.

I walked outside and saw that my dad’s car was gone.

“Of course.” I said out loud. I’d have to do everything myself again this morning.

Once I finished everything I called up Mason. I was never sure who I should hang out with. Levi was an ass most of the time but I was pretty used to him. However he hated coming anywhere near my house. Cam and I were more of on the ice friends, and Mason was about the only one who would ever come over, if he wasn’t with Claire which was almost never.

“Hey Mason.” I said into the phone.

“How did Sydney react?” He asked quicker than I expected.

“She thanked me and left. She said very little words.”

“Really? Was she super sad? Anything?” Mason asked.

“Not really that I could tell. She seemed okay.” I wasn’t sure why Mason even cared so much.

“Well man, me and Claire are back together, we are going to go out with Levi and Kennedy later today. Sorry man, I figured you called because you were bored.”

“No worries have fun.” I lied and hung up the phone. I imagined what that double date would be like. The most selfish girl with the girl who probably already had plastic surgery. I had no idea why Levi and Mason fell for this. Neither of them are that ugly. So I’m sure they could get about any other girl.

But I guess that’s what most guys go for. Fake, rude girls. All they care about is if the butt and boobs are big enough.

If only girls didn’t fall for those types of guys. But sadly things just don’t work out. The most down to earth respectful guys end up with no one while the cheaters and liars end up with all of them. Sometimes I guess things do work out. The liars meet the other liars and are happily ever after.

I laugh thinking of Mason and Claire, and Levi and Kennedy. Maybe they are perfect for each other.

I walked back into my room and laid on the bed. I just wanted it to be Monday so I could be back out on the ice.
