"Thanks a lot" I grumble into the phone. I'm sitting on my bed, eating a sandwich and (surprise) sketching while talking to Amber.
"What did I do?" she asks. I hear sarcasm in her voice.
"My parents caught me sneaking in so guess whose grounded for two weeks."
Amber chuckles a little on the other end of the phone.
" What did they ground you from?"
"My phone.....and my sketchbooks"
Ambers now laughing. I can't help but smile a little at her laugh.
"Well your talking on your phone right now and I know you well enough to know your probably sketching right now so did they just say that and go right back to bed?"
" Actually I'm sketching in my emergency sketchbook. I keep in tucked under my mattress for this reason and secondly my parents are out so I grabbed my phone which they conviently left out on the table." I have a small note of teasing in my voice.
"Wait a minute, emergency sketchbook? So did they like, take all your other ones?"
"Yep" I say, smiling into the phone.
"Thats the stupidest punishment ever!" Ambers laughing harder now.
"I'm lucky that they completely forgot to take my car keys"
"Yeah! Really lucky!" Amber says between fits of laughter.
"Riley" I hear a small voice coming from behind me. I turn around, the phone still pressed to my ear, and come face to face with Becca.
"Hey Becca" I say casually. I can still hear Amber laughing.
"Umm...I want to ask you something" Becca says, looking at her feet. Shes dressed in jeans and a t-shirt that has something about unicorns on it and also biting her nails.
"Yeah sure, what do you need?"
"Um...There's a recital at the performance hall and i...um.. wanted to go see the ballerinas"
"Becca, I'm grounded"
"I know I just......really want to go"
I sigh and look at my little sister looking so adorable standing there pleading to go see a bunch of people dance in leotards's.
"Amber, I'm gonna have to call you back"
"Alright" I can almost see Amber smiling. "You guys have fun"
I hang up and look at my phone a few seconds and then turn to Becca.
"So when does it start?" I ask. Becca grins and starts jumping up and down excitedly.
"It starts at 7:00" she says, still grinning.
I look at my watch which reads 6:15.
"Mom and Dad won't get back until late tonight so.... I guess we can go"
"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" Becca cheers and jumps onto me,wrapping me in a hug.
I laugh and then say "Ok, go get your stuff together, I want to see you in the car in 15 minutes"
"Ok!" Becca yells, running out of my room.
10 minutes later, Becca's at the front door dressed in her ballerina costume and hugging her tiny ballerina doll.
"Riley, come on!" She yells at me.
"Just a sec!" I yell back, doing the finishing touches on my hair then grabbing my purse and car keys off my bedside table.
