How to create an exciting blurb

Apart from creating an eye catchy book cover and a title, the most important thing to consider is the book description. This can make or mar you in the publishing and selling of hardcopy books.

Of course, people wanna read a book with an enticing description because there are million fishes swimming in the sea here on Wattpad. So what's gonna differentiate your story from the rest? What are the intricate details you put in to gain the reader's interest? What's the catch?

Often at times in reviews or awards, they state faults with book descriptions but don't enlighten you on how to go about correcting your mistakes. There are four steps to be taken in creating an exciting book description.

Step 1: Create a starting hook.

Now let me expantiate on this.

A couple users on this app make use of quotes either in storyline of their book or something related to the plot. Now, the interestingness (if there is actually a word like that) of this qoute or excerpt is going to be the attraction for more readers. What exactly do I mean? You may ask.

All I am saying is to create an eye catchy line that sprouts a reader's interest in your book. The image above is a blurb of my ongoing teen fiction book. You might want to check that out later. Now, focus on the intrigue, the catch, the mind blowing start. That can go a long way.

Step 2: Plotting

Now, what exactly is your story about? What are the quirks or character traits you hope to portray? What are the structural attitudes or backstory you are whipping up to entice readers? Do your MC's act stereotypical or exhibit flawed characters? How do they relate to their family or those around them?

How do they cope with their past actions or humiliations they are bound to face? Thinking of these questions in the plotting aspect would go a long way in familiarizing the readers with the main characters.

Step 3: Making the plot realistic.

Everyone wants to write a story whether it be adventure, teen fiction, mystery, horror, science fiction and the rest. Most people don't take 'making the plot realistic' into account before diving in to write the book blurb. Are your characters just in your head or they are for readers to take home some lessons with them.

Most people won't consider this but for your story to attract readers, it must hint at an aim or the message you are trying to pass across. Get me?

Step 4: create an open loop.

What am I getting at? It's pretty simple.

What is the main conflict of the story? What are the unanswered questions a reader has to ponder about? What's going to happen if the secondary conflict isn't resolved? What's the catch? Why exactly would readers want to dive in?

Is there going to be an exciting event further on in the story? What are the mysteries surrounding the story or how the character might act concerning the plot? All this questions are to be answered by the writer before penning down the third section of the book blurb.

1st section: The Catch

2nd section: The Plot

3rd section: The loop

Easy peezy.

Okay guys, that's all for today. Tune in for another episode by tomorrow. I hope y'all have learnt a lesson from this. If you need any help or clarification on anything, you could leave a comment on this page or share any of your experiences with the group.
