CHRISTINE's POV
When Jace and I entered the venue, everyone's eyes were on us. For some reason, it became quiet in the party hall like something exploded in front of them. Everyone was undeniably surprised. I saw my sister and Marco staring at us in disbelief before they looked at each other.
I noticed that Jace's friends were whispering to each other while smiling meaningfully as well while looking at our direction. My cheeks heated up. I couldn't take it anymore.
"Can you get away from me?! You're too close!" I hissed. I almost sighed in relief when Jace's arm loosened around my waist. I thought, he was going to oblige but his arm tightened possessively around my waist once again. I glared at him. I knew that he was doing it on purpose to piss me off.
"I said, get your arm off of me! Everybody's already staring at us and I don't like the attention!" I whisper-yelled at him but he looked unaffected of my obvious anger. Instead, he spoke casually.
"You're right, mi amor. Everyone's eyes are already on us so act naturally. You look like a cat that is about to give birth."
"Damn you! Don't call me that! And for your information, I'm not a cat!" He ignored what I've said as he guided me to a certain table.
People went back to their own businesses, but I could still see them throwing glances at us. I hate being the center of attention, especially that everyone in the party knows that Jace and I were married but separated.
He pulled a chair for me. I closed my eyes shut. I felt like all the stares were already burning my back and I didn't like the feeling. All the visitors were Jace and Marco's friends together with their families and relatives. We basically know everyone.
The party haven't started yet but there was already music that was playing in the background. I sighed and just sat on the chair that Jace offered me. He then sat across me as his eyes never left mine. The table was just a small one and good for two persons that's was why I felt like he was too close to me and I couldn't breathe.
I couldn't believe that we're here together right now. I've never thought that a day would come for us to be together in one place like this again. I wanted to leave him there and join my sister and the others at their table but I wanted our divorce issue to be finished as soon as possible.
Jace said that he would sign the divorce papers if I would do the things that he wants me to do. I knew I would be swimming on dangerous waters again but at least, the moment he signs, everything will be finished between us too. We could finally go on our separate ways after that.
I kept on repeating that in my head so that I wouldn't explode in anger but I couldn't help but to get ticked off of his actions. I couldn't understand why he's giving me the hard time when he could easily give me what I want.
He's acting like I was the reason why we came to this point. Divorce.
"Why are you doing this? What are you planning to do? We've been separated for three years so let go of me already. What I'm asking you is not that hard, right? Why do you have to make this difficult for the both of us?" I couldn't help but barrage him with a lot of questions, trying my best not to show my anger even though I was already on the brink of slapping his face.
I thought he was going to answer smugly again but he heaved a sigh. He suddenly looked tired.
"Do you really have to ask that to me, mi amor? You already know my answer to that, right? You're telling me that what you're asking from me is not that hard. Really? Is it really easy for you to make our marriage null and void? You vowed, Christine. Was I the only who values what we have vowed at the altar on our wedding day? I am doing this to fight for our marriage. You know very well that I will never give you that damn divorce!" The way he uttered the last word was full of distaste.
