To The States

part five: new problem

the three of them stand there, silent, the same expression on their face. a mixture of shock and worry,

"sorry, what?" cat said, removing her bag from her shoulder and placing it on a hospital chair. the doctor double checked his clipboard,

"urm, isobel anderson is two months pregnant, the baby is very healthy and the head is normal size" he said, the room remained silence. the doctor read the room, "i'll come back when you're ready" he swiftly left and cat quickly followed him.

isobel held her head in her hands and muttered,

"rico" annie hugged her mother,

"oh mum, don't worry we're gonna get through this" isobel lay there in silence.

the three of them made their way home, the journey was silent and intense. when they got home, isobel went straight upstairs to her room,

"what do you want for dinner?" cat called up. she didn't answer. she locked the door. annie and cat shared a look before annie went and followed.

"mum?" annie said knocking on the door. isobel opened the door a little and walked over to the window. her window was huge and glass, "mum, are you ok?"

"what are we gonna do ann?" she said,

"i'm not sure but what ever we're gonna do, we're doing it together" she encouraged her, "me, you and cat"

"what about me eh?" isobel and annie turned around and looked at cat's boyfriend, dominic, standing at the door.

"oh, hello dom" isobel said,

"hey, cat told me everything and i'm gonna help you emotionally, physically and financially." he walked over and hugged her,

"thank you dom"

"and sexually" isobel slapped him on the shoulder.

annie walked out and went into her own bedroom. she slumped onto her bed. she heard her phone begin to ring.

"hello?" annie answered

"answer the door" the phone hung up. annie went downstairs and saw ashley standing outside the door. she opened it and let her in

"how's your mum?" the two of them sat in cats painting area.

"she's fine, it was nothing" annie decided she didn't want to tell anyone at school. it was still early days,

"we were all so worried when you took off like that. we were all prepared to come down and we were gonna come here but i was the only one that showed up, i just wanted to know that we are all here for you, you are the something that was missing in the group"

"now, thanks for coming but i'm gonna write one of my songs" annie said, ashley gasped,

"can i have a sneak peak"

"no ash, but i think you'll like it"

"ok, well have fun, i'll see you break tomorrow"
ashley stood up and grabbed her purse

"don't we have netball tomorrow first period?" annie questioned,

"yeah but you have your interviews with miss connor"

"oh yeah! i totally forgot"
