"No!"

He ran towards him as tears stung his eyes and his throat clenched painfully.

He almost reached him when the stark collar of his shirt was wrenched back forcefully.

"Let me go!" Sam yelled, thrashing angrily as his older brother Dean spun him around to face him.

"Sam, listen to me," Dean started. "We have to go, the portal won't be open for much longer and we can't get stuck here."

"I don't care, I can't leave him, I-"

"If we don't go, we all die."

"I don't care, just let me die."

Dean hesitated for a moment, startled to hear the words coming from Sam's mouth and he used that to his advantage.

He quickly spun around and took two steps forward just in time to see the blade sink into the archangel's vessel.

All time seemed to stop as the archangel Gabriel looked to Sam with a shocked look and his last word dancing on his tongue.

"Sam?"

Gabriel crumpled to the ground as blinding blue light poured from his eyes and mouth, his own painful scream muffled by the sound of his exploding grace.

"Please, no." Sam yelled desperately and disbelieving as he was once again dragged towards the portal, his fight suddenly gone.

"Gabriel" He whispered as his voice broke,

"Come back to me."
