Chapter 2

Prim slept in the next day she woke up to her mother's sobs prim knew if she tried to comfort her mother she would start crying too and that would make it worse so she pretended to be asleep after her mother stopped crying prim pretending to wake up after that she milked her goat and started to prepare to make cheese then she remembered last night she'd told Travis she would meet him In The meadow after finishing her chores she hurriedly finished her chores and headed to the meadow after telling her mother where she was going but not why. Travis was already waiting "you ok today?" Her asked he wanted to make sure he didn't act ignorant to her hurt "yah I'm fine now" lied Prim Travis pulled some burnt bread out of his coat Prim beamed "Mrs. mellark threw it at me trying to shoo me...she does that a lot don't you think?" said Travis "you can have it" he added seeing the look of hunger flash over prims face "no lets share it" said prim taking it and splitting it in half "ok" said Travis a smile tugging at his lips he knew all along prim would share it if he offered it to her they sat and ate the bread then watched the clouds pointing out the ones that looked like objects or people then they talked about what they would do if well... They didn't live where they were and things weren't the way they where. "I don't know what I'd do" said Travis prim nodded in agreement "what do rich people do anyway?" "I'm not sure...buy stuff?" Said prim unsure prim and Travis finished off the bread and after some persuasion Travis got prim to agree to going to the black market. once they got there prim heard a familiar voice yell to her "prim! Hey!" Yelled gale pushing through the crowd prim was never fond of gale but she didn't complain because katniss seemed to like him "here is a squirrel for trading and here's one for dinner" said gale handing prim some dead squirrels after he pushed through the crowd Travis laughed when he noticed the disgusted look on Prim's face as gale handed the dead squirrels to her so casually "I'll carry those for you" said Travis smiling and fighting back a laugh "thanks" said prim smiling rolling her eyes as she whipped her hands on her torn and worn skirt. Prim and Travis traded one squirrel for some wild berries from a kind old man then they headed to Prim's home. when they got there Travis insisted on preparing the squirrel while Prims mother continued healing a man who was injured in a rock fall in the mines (luckily he was the only one truly injured) after prim helped her mother with some finishing touches she went to go find Travis to thank him for his help but he was gone "why does he always have to disappear!" Said prim thinking aloud (she did that when she was frustrated) "he'll come back he always does eventually" said Prims mother putting he hand on her shoulder. The next day prim headed out to the meadow to do some thinking after finishing her chores she started walking in the direction of the meadow on her way she passed Travis' house "get out of my sight!" Screamed a woman's voice prim recognized as Travis' mother then she saw the door open and Travis' mother push him out the door "you ungrateful little..." She said then she made a small growling noise and slammed the door leavening Travis outside alone Travis turned around slowly and prim hid behind a tree Travis started walking towards the meadow while kicking a rock his head was down and prim couldn't see his face she ran after him "are you ok?" She said she wore a worried face Travis looked up then looked back down quickly but not quick enough "what happened to your face!" Said prim lifting his head up with her hand there was a large bruise on his left cheek bone and it was swelling he jerked away "it's nothing .... really" he said looking down then he quickened his speed he was still walking in the direction of the meadow prim had to almost jog to catch up "are you ok?" Whispered prim "I need some time to think is all" said Travis quietly prim knew what he meant by this he wanted to be alone so he could think things through " ok but stay in the meadow I'm going to run home and get you some herbs to stop the swelling" said prim then she turned around and headed home. not to long after prim ran in the doorway of her home and started searching the cupboards for the herbs she needed "need theses again" said her mother reaching in the correct cupboard and handing her the herbs and the tools needed to make them into a sort of paste her mothers face was Grimm she knew why prim needed the herbs after prim made the paste she ran out the door but wasn't to fast not to hear her mothers last comment "poor boy..." she whispered. When prim got to the meadow Travis was lying on his back in the soft grass looking up at the gray sky prim walked over to him and knelt down "here" she said handing him the paste after he propped himself up on his elbows he applied it to his face "thanks" he said softly prim knew she should leave him alone but she wanted to know what happened this time Travis knew what she wanted and sighed then started to tell the story "I was complaining about how lousy the capital treats us and my mum well...she miss understood it she thought I was saying she mistreated me and well then got angry" Travis' voice sounded like he was going to cry things like this happened a lot but when prim saw it it really got to him prim decided to leave she'd never seen him cry before and she didn't intend to see him cry any time soon so she got up and left.At home prim realized how "lucky" she was she had a sister and a mother that loved her and a roof over her head (even though it had a lot of leaks it was better than most the people in 12 had) and she had good friends and the capital couldn't take that away from her. Or could they?
