3rd POV

Kai walked through the busy streets of the market. People kept giving her weird looks as she walked through the street but she was mainly ignored as they all prepared for the Mahrajan festival that would be happening tonight. A small sigh escaped Kai’s lips as she thought about the festival, it was always something she wished she could attend but she knew that her wish would never be filled. She was a slave and nothing more, that’s all she would be for the rest of her life.

Kai stopped her thinking about unreasonable things and focused on the task at hand, buying the food that was needed in the underground base. She soon arrived at the stall that sold all that she needed for the next week. Kai paid and received everything putting it in a wooden basket resting on her head. She then headed towards the alley way that lead to the abandoned building that just so happened to be the entrance to the underground base of the gang. When she reached about ten feet from the entrance of the alley way she was tripped thus dropping the basket and all the food in it onto the ground. No one stopped to help her so she began picking it all up by herself.

Meanwhile…

Masrur POV

As I walked through the busy streets of the market on my way back from training in the forest I smelt something I never thought I’d smell here, the smell of the rusting metal of ankle shackles. The more I listened I could also make out the clinking of the metal as the person wearing them walked. ‘Why would I hear that here, Sinbad would never allow such a thing. No one would allow such a thing here.’

I followed the smell and noise until I found a woman knelt down picking up dropped food from the ground. I observed her noticing how different she looked from the rest of the citizens here. She wore a cream colored, loose fitting floor length dress with the top of the dress being like a tank top. Along with that she also wore a cheap cream scarf wrapped around her face with her eyes covered by a black veil.

I walked over to the woman and knelt down silently helping her put the food into the basket. Once finished I offered a hand to help her stand up as I stood up myself. She refused my help as she stood up a glint of the metal reflecting sunlight showed for a quick second before she silently disappeared into the alleyway. I furrowed my eyebrows as I walked to the alleyway and found it empty. Her scent still lingered but she wasn’t there anymore. I turned quickly and headed towards the palace. I needed to confront Sinbad on this.

Kai POV

Someone walked over helping me put food in my basket. When the food was all picked up the person offered me a hand to help get up but I refused, standing up on my own. I quickly and silently rushed off to the alleyway. I ran to the building using my speed and disappeared into it quickly in case he tried to follow me. I sat down against the wall as I thought back to what had just happened.

‘He was a fanalis… I know it. His hair, his eyes they were just like mine. But people were calling him one of the eight generals of Sindria. I heard them whispering about him helping me. How is a beast, a disgraceful fanalis one of the Kings eight generals? I mean he was dressed like he was important with the expensive armor and cloth on his body. Is being a fanalis really a bad thing? Are we just beasts, ugly beasts who must be tamed? I’ll ask Master Corbin when I bring him his dinner. I should go make him and everyone else dinner before they get upset.’

I finally stood back up after raking through my thoughts of what just happened. I went to the secret entrance in the basement of the abandoned building. I opened the door on the stone wall with my strength. It was made so only someone like me could open it from the outside. I couldn’t open it from the inside though. After I went in I closed it and headed down the steep cold stone stairs. I made sure I walked at a brisk speed until I reached the bottom. I then ran half speed to the kitchen where I began cooking knowing I needed to cook quickly. I did everything I need to before putting the food over the fire. As it cooked on the fire I headed to the back corner of the kitchen where I slept and took off the scarf and veil.

I took the small bowl of water I was given and rinsed my face off with it, as I dried my face I looked down at the reflection of myself. My eyes and hair a crimson red contrasting intensely with my porcelain skin. As I stared into my reflection I saw my reflection change into what looked like Masrur. He was definitely a fanalis like me.

I shook my head and walked back to where the food was. I waited for it to be done before I took it off the fire and put it all on nicely served plates. I placed the plates on two big trays and walked out heading towards where I knew they all were drinking in the main room. ‘I’ll definitely ask Master Corbin about Masrur.’
