Chapter 4 : How To Discover MillerTown
To be honest, I'm not very confident about this town tour thing, there is nothing really interesting to show her, but, at least, I will make her comfortable with her new life area. After finishing my ice cream, I decide to go outside, and Victoria follows me. She asks me if we can go to her place, first, so she can let her things back there, and be free to visit. I accept and she leads me to the town hall where the FBI seems to have found a place to work and live. She quickly goes inside the building and I wait in front of the announcement board, which is full of job requests, babysitting offers and city events dates.
None of them concerns Hannah or her disappearance. That's strange, why would M. Thompson keep her daughter disappearance secret? Then, I remember something, the FBI agents think about one of the students as a suspect, so they surely do the same with the adult of the city. If they tell everyone about it, everyone can make up a good excuse for where they were on Friday night.
Victoria taps my shoulder and smiles to me, as if she waits for something. I suddenly react and remember about the visit, so I start to walk. First of all, I explain to her what the buildings are on this place called the Elizabeth Miller Place.
"As you can see, this is the town hall, the police station, the doctor King's office, the post office, the bakery, the bank, where both Zachary parents are working, the florist and the advocate office, where my mom is working with Tracy Thompson, the General Attorney Thompson's wife. This is called the Elizabeth Miller's Place."
"Tell me, are all the places and buildings named after a Miller?" she raises an eyebrow.
"Well, practically yes" I chuckle "They're quite popular around here."
"I can tell. What about your family? Do you have a place or something?"
"The Football Field is named after my grandpa Roy; he was a great quarterback. The best the town has ever known, he played for the National Team when he was young."
"Wow, that's awesome! Do you play football as well?"
"No, not really, I'm more of a soccer or basketball girl. But I'm the assistant coach so I have a good place in the team."
"You know, I kind of fear the first day of actual school." Realize Victoria. "I mean... the other students did acknowledge me and my father talking, and they know I'm a federal's daughter."
"Do you think it will change something?"
"It's already changing, Blake. Zach told me he didn't want me around him when he talks to you all about something serious. The others laughed at him, but I can see it was the truth."
"This has nothing to do with your father, you're just the new girl, they need time to adapt, you know?"
"I hope..."
"Anyway, this way you have the school and the football field, but we've already done this route this morning, so I think we should go that way." I show her another road.
"Where is it going?"
"There are some new plots, the Sheriff Clint and his two sons live here, many students too. And, there is the Abraham Lincoln Park, which separates the school from the houses. You are arriving in front of the Sue King Sports Complex and you can join the school from the back."
"Great to know, is there any other way to enter the school?"
"Actually, yes, but that's a secret thing, so maybe I'll show you later."
"See, you want to hide things to me already" she laughs, and I look at her with a "are you serious?" look. "I'm kidding, I can wait if it means I will spend more time with you" she flirts.
