AN: I wasn't always completely fascinated by Clockwork, I just found her design cool and read her origin story many, many years ago, but I just didn't pay attention to any of the flaws. But once I got older, I realized that the pasta was ten times worse than Jeff the Killer and Sonic.exe/Round 2 combined. I know Leafcrowns disowned the character completely, but she still has her place in the community, so I decided to give the character another chance by giving her origin story a complete overhaul. It may seem a bit rushed, but I think it's ok. It's better than the original, that's for sure.

(The experience I'm about to share was drawn from memory, so there is a chance that some of the things I'll say may not be accurate)

My name is Ruby Davis, I'm seventeen years old and I need to tell some things about myself before we get into the story, since the information I'm about to give is kind of important. I never liked being transferred to new schools. Of course, I don't mean that I don't enjoy meeting other people and making new friends. But that's the problem. Because of my parents' jobs, we had to move from state to state by the end of every semester, and I never got to form solid friendships. Needless to say, it sucks to be me.

I lived a whole life of loneliness and frustration, but for the most part, it wasn't too bad... until I met her.

Almost a year ago, right before my junior year of high school, my family and I moved to a town in Nebraska, and they immediately tried to find a school for me. I got the misfortune of joining a local high school that was pretty far from our apartment.

Before the first day of school, I didn't feel excited at all. I figured that it wouldn't be any different. I saw the futility of my attempts at making a new friend because I knew that I wouldn't see them again by the end of the semester.

The next day was the beginning of the end. I introduced myself and the teacher gave me a seat at the back of the class. The school I joined had desks for two students to occupy, so I would share a desk with another classmate.

Her name was Natalie Ouellette, and she was by far the strangest person I have ever met. She had long brown hair that she never took good care of. She was always quiet and doodled in class when she was bored or figured that the lesson didn't mean anything to her. She also had an eyepatch that covered her left eye, and it made her look less like an edgy student and more like a pirate. But the strangest thing I noticed was that weird pocket watch she carried around with her all the time. She would check it from time to time, and I could see her sweating every time she did.

We didn't really talk at first, and whenever I looked at her she'd stare back at me and I would immediately pretend that I was busy. I guess I was afraid to tick her off. (no pun intended)

Two weeks had passed, and I saw her coming to the classroom one morning with bruises all over her face. No one but me seemed to notice, not even the teachers, which pissed me off.

"What happened to you?" I asked her during math class. She looked at me with her only eye, which made me gulp.

"It's none of your business," she said bluntly.

"Why?"

"Even if I told you, you wouldn't care."

"Why are you being so defensive?"

"It's something personal," she said. "You can't do anything about it, so leave it."

"If I can't do anything about it, what's it gonna hurt telling me?"

She sighed and remained silent for the rest of the class. She actually tried to write down everything without getting off track, which was unusual for her. She would normally draw characters I wouldn't recognize, or whatever. But that time, she actually bothered to pay attention.
