ROSE
The wind whistled past the weirdling tower and out into the barren desert; lifeless and empty. The sandstorms and dunes concealed the mysteries that lay beyond the Palace. The dusty walls of the Palace surrounding her were slowly decaying - shrinking back into the sands of time that would wash the stone away. From somewhere in the desert, a wall of sand formed, diving towards the Sandwing Stronghold, trying to reclaim the sandstone that was previously in their possession. The sandstorm failed once again, to penetrate the strong fortifications of the Castle. The sand lowered down to surround the palace, lifting the veil that covered the sunshine.
The queen strode out of the Palace grumpily, reprimanding a sand dragon with an amber earring. His name was Qibble or something but that didn't matter. The real question was where was her dragon? Where was he? Where was Smolder?
Rose knew that he hadn't come back into the safety of the stone walls. She also knew that apparently, he had a daughter who wanted to challenge the queen for the throne. She needed to find Smolder quick. After all, it was Smolder who had been stopping the dragons from eating her. But how was she going to do it? the dunes were five times bigger than her and the dragon shovels were two times taller than her.
Maybe I should wait inside. If Rose had heard correctly, the Queen had taken quite a liking to Smolder and the queen would not let Smolder die if she truly loved him. So, she didn't need to worry. Nonetheless, I should search, just in case. All the dragons were at the front of the palace. None of them had even thought about searching the back. Which just shows how weird they are. Do they know something behind here that will harm them?
The Palace was enormous. The average size for a palace, according to Smolder. Then, Rose pointed out that she was about one-tenth of him.
She put her hand on the walls added by the former queen, Burn and instantly felt a searing pain rise up her arm. By all the Moons, how could I forget? The palace's second layer of walls had lots of glass spikes that would easily impale someone if they put their hand on it. Lucky I didn't. She continued down towards the back of the palace, careful not to put her hand on the walls again.
As she rounded the corner, she could see why the dragons did not want to come back here. There were bundles of cacti on the floor but that wasn't why. The reason was that it had an enigmatic aura of calamity to it, like a knife was to suddenly appear right next to your throat. This place gave Rose a sensation that she was being followed. She could almost feel the eyes piercing her skin, giving a small tingling feel on her back.
"I better get go back to the dragons and see if Smolder is okay, "Rose muttered to herself. Rose was just about to turn and sprint to the palace gates again when a voice echoed from somewhere.
"Where do you think you're going?" The voice echoed before everything went black.

Rose woke up in a darkness so thick, it could have smothered out her life in a heartbeat. She tried to rub her throbbing head only to wriggle a bit. Her heart sank when she realised that her hands and feet were chained against the wall. More ominous still was the advancing footsteps, growing louder, sending waves of adrenalin into Rose.
The footsteps did not stop - it just kept on circling Rose; maliciously - like a nightmare poised to strike at any moment, any second now. Rose searched for a silhouette, a sign that the person or dragon the footsteps belonged to was here and not outside. The voice echoed again - the voice she had heard in the desert but somehow, more menacing.
"Tell me, what do you know about the dragon language."
"Never."
The voice burst into a dangerous laugh. "Tenacious girl, I see. I know that other girl has been teaching you some dragon. Well, I don't think you can handle this, no matter how hard you try."
