Elena Diaz and her friend Maria Guadelupe were having breakfast together. It wasn't a crowded day at the Union as Zeus was going to eclipse the sun and the city would be directly in the moon's shadow. The people had gone home to watch the eclipse with their families.
Robert Jareen joined the two at the office's canteen.
"Look, I apologise for holding a gun to you the other day. I mistook you for someone else."
"It's fine, Mister Jareen. Did you meet my friend, Maria? She's quite the sniper."
"Sniper? That's very interesting. What about you Elena, what's your weapon of choice?"
"Any knife will do for me."
Maria looked at Robert with curiosity. Something was different about him. He was nervous and he was tapping his foot anxiously.
"Jareen, you look nervous today. Something wrong?" she asked.
"Nothing much. Furic's deploying the spire today so I wonder how that'll play out."
They had a casual conversation before Robert went back to the highest floor. There a man with glasses stood next to the president. He had the gait and a vibe of a well read person. He held a large axe which was completely mismatched with his overall look.
"The execution will commence now, Mister Jareen." he said. Just next to him, on his knees was a boy about seventeen years old from his looks. He had long hair and wore a pair of black glasses similar to that of Robert's.
"Zack Alester, I've heard of you. From the rebels' files you must be the one behind the riot outside." said Robert. "Anything to say?" he asked, taking the axe in his hand.
Zack remained quiet.
"Well, then. Zack, you were on the wrong side this time. Sadly there won't be a next time for you."
Zack looked up at Robert and his eyes widened. Robert raised the axe in the air aimed at Zack's neck but mouthed a phrase. The phrase was a familiar one and was known only by the rebels from the underground base of Central City. It was Kwè mwen, Zack.
The axe swung but instead of hitting Zack hit Lucifer right in the chest.
"Robert?" said Lucifer holding his chest as it healed.
"I'm not Robert, you monster." Robert tapped his glasses and the appearance of his face shifted. His beard disappeared. His height decreased as well. The disguise vanished revealing a much younger person.
Just then two people bust through the door - Maria and Elena. Their disguises also vanished and revealed the faces of Sam and Alex respectively. The man who was holding the axe wasn't using much of a disguise but he did not resemble his true identity - interdimensional physicist Ethan Alester.
"Well, would you look at that!" said Lucifer. He opened his palm and his sword appeared in his hand.
"I'm going to kill you for what you did to my brother and for what you did to X," said Ryan.
"Before you do anything stupid..." said Lucifer. "Let me show you what you're up against. I know you were the one looking for where the Spire was being constructed, so let me enlighten you." He walked over to the side of his desk and tapped his sword on the marble floor.
From the outside it appeared as if the sides of The Union were shifting upwards. Within a minute, the building was twice as long and half as thick. The floor in which the team and Lucifer were in moved upwards to the very top of the building.
The desk in the room transformed into a large black prism and the roof opened up exposing them to the sky. By that time, the eclipse had begun. The prism's bottom elongated through the entire building and its top began to glow a bright red.
