WELCOME TO A NEW ADVENTURE. THIS IS MY SECOND TRY AT WRITING A STORY AND ALTHOUGH A LITTLE WARNING, I AM A BIT WEARY HOW THIS ONE WILL PROCEED, BUT I WILL TRY MY BEST TO MAKE IT YOUR WORTHWHILE. ALSO, I AM NOT VERY CLEAR WITH ALL THE ROYAL OR NOBLE TITLES, SO BEAR WITH ME. ALL SAID, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO LEAVE COMMENTS, FEEDBACK OR ANYTHING YOU FEEL IS SUITABLE. BY ALL MEANS, CARRY ON:
'Urgh! How much longer do I have to endure this meeting?' I thought. Sitting around the bureaucrats with their bratty sons who think they are better than everyone here, all trying to win my hand in marriage. Honestly, some of them don't even try, assuming that their 'charming' smile is enough to make me fall in love with them and the others are a plain bore. I actually pity them even feel sorry almost, because no matter what they do, my heart will never belong to them.
So, instead of being attentive to what they were saying- well, I knew what they were talking about, I just wasn't taking a part in it- I imagined of being in the arena, enhancing my sword skills, practicing hand-to-hand combat or maybe even engage in a dual with my mentor. But I guess anything would be more interesting. For the whole day, I wasn't allowed to go out on the grounds because of the guests that we were hosting, I had to be all prim and proper like a lady, behave like the princess I was. I longed to feel the weight of my sword, the strength that just seemed to run through my veins when I put on the armor, the power that radiated when I win a fight against the knights. I am free on the battleground and feel at home more than anywhere else.
I was roused from my thoughts by some movements around me, bringing me back to the real world. I saw the visitors getting up, which meant the gathering had come to an end. I saw my father bidding farewell with a dazzling smile and I had to follow the suit. I mustered up my most polite smile and gave a small bow to the- oh Lord, I don't remember... oh, right he was a Lord- the Lord and his son, while 'prince charming' took my hand and kissed it.
"It was really nice meeting you, my Princess. I hope we meet again and get sufficient time to talk without this formal setting." He said and surprisingly it sounded sincere.
"Yes, maybe we will get an opportunity soon." This time smiling was a bit easier.
With this they departed, leaving me and father in the chambers. I let out a deep sigh and subtly tried to leave the room, eager to change out of the gown and wear some lighter clothes and maybe go out and take part in some activities. But it seemed that my father had yet another plan for me.
"Alex, will you be kind enough to remind me of the name of the Lord we just talked to?" His deep baritone rang through the silent room.
"Father, it is rude to forget the names of our guests so soon. As a King you should remember, what would the citizens think of you!" I teased.
His sober expression made it clear that this time my cheekiness wouldn't take me anywhere with me, which is kind of unusual because he would always engage in these types of banters.
"Fine, I will admit that I don't remember their name. I am sorry." I said after a few moments.
"That was Lord Anderson and his son William, they are one of the high taxpayers and quite a respectable family in the Kingdom. Alex, you cannot keep doing this, every time we talk about your marriage, you either completely ignore the topic or never take interest in any of the suitors. If there is something or someone you want to tell us about, please do, because this is a matter of importance and is to be taken very seriously. This won't only decide your future but also of the Kingdom." He said.
"But Father, I told you that I have no interest in getting married. Why cannot I rule the Kingdom single-handedly instead? You know that I am well capable to do it alone. I know about every political affair the court is involved in, I have accompanied you in times of battle and even helped to build strategies and I even get along with the citizens. They adore me Father and I care about them as well. You know that I will always think about our people first." I argued.
