The name sounded so familiar. Way too familiar. I tried to get a grip on it but I just couldn't remember anything from the future. The name didn't even matter. I thought this boy would be different.

Soda walked to the counter and froze, his eyes darting from me to Pony, and he gave me an apologetic smile before motioning me into the garage.

"Why would you say he liked me, but lie? You just led me on. I can't believe you. You said he didn't even have a girlfriend." I said frustrated, my eyes tearing. I wouldn't be weak. I wiped them away.

"I'm sorry. I couldn't do it. You both are clearly head over heels for each other. I don't make the rules. I know when Pony takes a liking to someone, and it's obviously you, and not her."

PONYBOY P.O.V

When I walked into the DX, I did not expect Amybeth to be there. I had been with my girlfriend at Dairy Queen, and I thought Soda and Steve were the only ones working. Wrong.

I froze for a second. "Amybeth, this is Eleanor!" I said enthusiastically, forcing a smile. The thoughts in my head weren't okay. I had a girlfriend. I can't feel bad for Amybeth. I'm happy in my relationship. But there's just something different about her, and I can't put my finger on it. I felt so much more connected to Amybeth, and I knew I had to do something about it.

That night Eleanor and I got into a fight. We always fought over the stupidest things, but she caught on to me and Amybeth quickly. It wasn't good, and I ended up breaking up with her. I didn't even feel sad after I did it.

I went up to my bedroom where Soda was already laying down.

"Eleanor and I broke up." I started as I pulled the covers back.

"What?" I closed his book and looked up at me.

"She caught onto Amybeth. I'm not even sad about it. I know who I belong with and it's Amybeth."

Right as I said those words Amybeth knocked on the door.

"Do you guys have any more toothpaste?" She said as we gave her the go-ahead to come in. I didn't know if she had been listening, but I secretly hoped she did.

"Yeah. Check the kitchen drawer on the far left side. We keep all the extra stuff in there." I said and she nodded me thanks before leaving.

"I'm gonna go get water." I decided and got up. It was mostly just to see Amybeth.

I went down to the kitchen and she was rummaging through the drawer.

"Here, I'll get it." I shoved my hand into the way back and pulled out the last box of toothpaste.

She was about to go back to her room before I stopped her.

"I'm sorry about earlier. I should've told you." I sighed.

"It wasn't right of you Pony. I really took a liking to you, and I thought you did too."

We stood there for what seemed like forever. I stared into her blue eyes like I was lost at sea.

Slowly, our faces inched towards each other. I held her face and smashed my lips onto her. Her lips were soft and tasted like a hint of cherry from her chapstick. We both pulled away and smiled at each other before hers quickly turned to a frown.
