While Julie unlocked the door to the daycare, she asked, "How'd the interview go yesterday? Do we have a new kid?"
She never came back after her appointment, and failed to call and tell me she wasn't coming back in. I swear, some days Julie seems like she's rather give up the daycare.
"It went good, and yes. Her name is Naomi, sweet girl." I grabbed the door behind her before it shut on me.
"Good, good. Do you know when Quinn will be back? I have to take some time off soon." She asked, turning down the hall to her office.
"Should be Monday." I walk past her door down to the room Quinn and I leave our stuff in. "Not that it would matter because you left me with ten kids yesterday afternoon." I mumbled under my breath, hopeful she didn't hear.
I walked back by the office to see her already on the phone with her friend.
No personal calls, huh?

"Thank you, Mrs. Jones, y'all have a great weekend." I smile as she walks her twin boys out of the door.
Finally, the last two kids of the day.
I walked in to the kitchen to make sure all the dishes and tables were cleaned and wiped down. Then I walked into the main room, putting a few toys back into place. After that, I walk down the hall to Julie's office to check and see if she needed anything before I left for the weekend.
"Hey, Julie, I'm about to head out do you nee-" I turn into her office to see she had already left. Of course. I rolled my eyes, went to get my bag and keys and headed to the front to lock up.
Right before I flipped the last light switch off, my phone vibrated.
{Hey girl. We still going out tonight?}
It was my best friend, Shana.
{Hell yes.} Was my reply.

"Oh my, gosh! And you're telling me you didn't get his number?" I yelled over the music to Shana.
She was talking about a guy she met yesterday and how handsome and sweet he was. Shana was a beautiful blonde, she was average height with deepest blue eyes I have ever seen. She could have every guy in here on their knees, all she'd have to do is wink at them.
"Girl, you know I'm shy." She said after sipping her fruity drink. "Besides, it was harmless flirting and I'll probably never see him again."
"Now listen to me, hoe. You could have any guy in the world, what's stopping you? You're gorgeous and young and fun to be around." Giving her my usual pep talk.
"You tell me this every time." She looked over the table at me.
"Because it's true." I shrug my shoulders and move my eyes across the bar's dance floor.
While scanning the room, I see a few couples pressed against each other, a group of younger girls dancing together and a group very drunk guys looking at the girls. Moving my eyes over to the bar, I see a familiar face.
Could it be? I thought to myself, then he turned on his bar stool as if he felt me staring at him. I cut my eyes back to my drink as soon as we made eye contact. Shit.
