James
Fallout 3
Warning: AngstI met James probably three, four years ago? I was wandering way outside Rivet City, completely lost as to where the place was. He eventually stopped to help me, since he was heading the same place as I. We got there, talking along the way. We actually became pretty great pals, and me, James, his son, and a few others were working on project purity. His son was polite, and seemed to have a good head on his shoulders, but I understood the frustration he had towards his father for leaving him. I was currently working on a spreadsheet that James requested a day ago.
With my focus elsewhere, I walked back into the rotunda, clipboard in hand with the information on getting the mistake fixed. Looking at it, I walked up the stairs and was quickly caught off guard. I was yanked forward, my information clattering to the ground and the muzzle of a gun being pushed to my temple. I immediately moved my hands to show I was defenseless, and I saw James in front of me, looking serious. I could tell the gears in his head were turning. After a minute or two, I realized that we had been infiltrated by the Enclave, those clever bastards, and that they were here to seize Project Purity out from under our feet. They seemed to be doing a damn good job of it, too.
James refused to give the password to them numerous times, and I squeezed my eyes shut as a bullet entered the skull of a fellow scientist. I opened them again and James clenched his jaw. An idea popped in my head, and I spoke, "I'll unlock it for you! He won't, but I will! Just don't kill anyone else!"
James looked to me, utterly distraught at where his hard work was going to end up. I was released and shoved to the control board. James was roughly shoved out, and the door was shut behind him so he couldnt come back and fuck it up. I took a deep breath, and activated the machine incorrectly. Almost immediately I felt the radiation take over the air. I looked to Autumn, raising my nose, "Fuck you, bitch."
He couldn't reply. His breaths were already labored and he collapsed to his knees. I shoved him over. I felt my lungs seize up, and stumbled back over to the thick glass wall, putting a palm on it, "James... Your hard work won't go to shit. I promise... I- I'm with you every step of the way..."
He put his palm across from mine and was shouting something I couldn't hear. Whether it was because of the thickness of the door or because of the irradiated air clogging my ears, I couldn't tell. All I know is that he was heartbroken when my eyes shut and my body went limp.
