'If I had more money maybe this wouldn't have happened. If I would've gone with her this wouldn't have happened. If I had have checked up on her this wouldn't be happening right now. If I would've just-' were the thoughts running through Nari's head. She currently sit outside of Sun-Hwa's hospital room. Alone, even though Sun Hwa had a few relatives that lived in the city not too far from the hospital. They were all too busy apparently. Too busy to spend a few moments with the severally injured girl. People simply walked past her as she sit in silence. Doctors, visitors, nurses. Just like her family, they were all but strangers who didn't even give her a single glance. Nothing that could give her a sense of comfort.

Standing up, she hesitantly entered the room Sun Hwa lay in. The sight of her best friend become sister almost unbearable. Her healthy hair had been ravaged. Dirt, garbage and blood clung to each strand. The bruises that kissed her skin quickly bloomed into shades of that of the sunset. Shades of blues and purples, beautiful but what they were from instantly reminded Nari of how she had failed her. But the blood. So much of it had poured out from her chest when she had found her. The wound from a single cut made with the intention of death. Just the other day she was shining. Her smile and soul lit up the cool darkness that Nari was. She couldn't believe it. She didn't want to. The one person she cared for, lay broken and barely breathing right before her. But just like the state her body was in, the sun was setting. And it was setting quickly.

Present

"Every word that leaves your mouth has me wishing for something more." Nari whispered into the phone. "Why don't we meet up maybe? It's not allowed but you haven't lived if you haven't taken a risk. Let's keep it a secret shall we? Just between you and me." She emphasized. With her sultry act, Nari had convinced the man she had been on the phone with for a while to meet up with her near a gas station in the darker part of the city. The place was known to be dangerous for woman, but most of the fellow girls at Love Impulse had a thing for the area. There were plenty of confusing alleyways, dumpsters that contained the unspeakable, and not enough people to witness a scene.

Stretching, she lifted herself from her seat at her desk. She cleaned up her area and then looked over to the empty space next to her, a rare frown forming onto her mostly emotionless face. Regardless of how many times she had begged for them to leave Sun Hwa's belongings where they were, they were thrown out. Of the girls that were new to the company, none of them even dared to occupy the space. Nari was infamous for throwing out their things the next day. If it wasn't Sun-Hwa's, then nobody could have it. Even after 2 years since the incident. She'd apologize the next day with a simple sorry written on a sticky note and if she was feeling generous, a singular stick of pocky.

"So where is the great Nari going to today?" A deep but playful  voice rumbled from behind the girl. Instantly recognizing the daily annoyance, Nari spun around, "That's none of your business Lucas. Can't a girl buy herself pretty things?" She retorted with a small scowl. Although she pretended to hate the guy, he was one of the few that helped her recover from past events. Truthfully, if it weren't for him she wouldn't have been standing there next to him.
"Buy?" He laughed. "That last time I asked you to buy a bag of chips from me you just took it! So much for being a hard worker." Lucas then cried out. Instantly, his tone became serious.

"If you're thinking about going 'shopping' at least let me tag along. You've always gone by yourself and to be honest, being this handsome has its downfalls." He then whispered in a rushed tone, "I think that Sarah girl has a crush on me. She smells musty and I'm bored of just overseeing everyone in the office." He begged on his knees. Shopping was the term everyone at Love Impulse used for when they met up with their clients. It was subtle and it's double meaning was useful when talking to girls outside of the office.

"Fine, but if you get in my way I won't hesitate to leave you alone in the middle of nowhere. You're probably too broke to afford an Uber anyways." Nari's words hit Lucas directly, 'how'd she know that I'm a broke bitch.' Together they said their goodbyes to the people at work and like she had done hundreds of times before, headed into the elevator near the entrance of the office. Underground, the office filled with beautiful woman, a color theme of neon pinks, reds and purples. But from above, what the elevator opened up to, a local newspaper company. Who the owner was of the two, nobody knew. Who deposited the money into their bank accounts, a mystery. But what they did know was that there were a lot of men with a shit load of money just waiting to be taken from underneath them. With confidence, they walked out of the building and into the busy city of Seoul. Just like the building, the city was bright with lights and shops open for everyone. But underneath who was to say of the crimes, drugs, and wealth that lay still like the opposite side of a coin.
