he sat quietly in the empty hall, against the lockers. he'd asked to go to the bathroom twelve and a half minutes ago, and his english teacher was probably questioning whether or not he really needed to go, but he didn't care. he was sitting in the floor alone, thinking about hunter. what a surprise. why did she run from him?

it had been days since the two had spoken. and he missed her.

sure, he had done some pretty horrible things to girls in the past.

and sure, when marleigh and calum made the date, ashton wanted to do some pretty horrible things to her.

but, once he saw her face, not just the handprint on her cheek, something inside him clicked. he looked into her eyes and studied her nose and lips. ashton didn't believe in all of that love at first sight shit, but this was pretty damn close.

maybe the fact that she didn't trip over herself trying to get to ashton made her even more attractive.

he didn't know what it was, but he did know that somehow, he was going to get through to this girl.

the final bell rang, and classroom doors opened. three doors down from where ashton was sitting, he spotted michael clifford. he was leaving a class, laughing with hunter, and that anger ashton had previously felt pervaded his body.

ashton jumped up from his spot, practically throwing himself across the hallway. "hunter sutton," he announced through the corridor.

hunter and michael both turned, and ashton noticed hunter roll those green eyes once she saw him.

ashton pushed his way to the pair. "will you excuse us?" he asked aloud.

"gladly," hunter replied as she began to spin back around in the direction she was originally heading, but ashton grabbed her forearm lightly to prevent her from doing so. she immediately pulled away from his touch, and fear flashed through her eyes.

ashton jerked his hand away quickly. "are you alright?"

"uh, yeah," she said. "you wanted to talk?"

ashton nodded. "will you excuse us?" he repeated, directing it this time toward michael. michael gave a small smile and wave to hunter as he left and headed to his locker.

"so, can i ask you something?" ashton began as the two of them shuffled slowly down the hall, side by side.

"um, yeah, sure."

"why do you run away from me?"

hunter paused, in speech and in step. "because you're the biggest prick i've ever met in my life."

"i am? how? i've been nothing but kind to you."

"oh, come on, ashton. i know exactly what you want."

ashton smiled at the way his name rolled beautifully from her lips. "what do i want? because i'm not even sure i know." he said.

"you just want to fuck me."

ashton stopped and laughed. "are you serious? that's what you think i want?"

hunter nodded quickly. "don't pretend it isn't true. i know your record. i know how you treated heather."

"okay, i'm gonna be honest with you. when you showed up that night, i wanted to fuck you. and i still want to fuck you. but if you think i'm doing all of this just to have sex with you, you don't know me very well."

"then why are you doing it?"

"i don't know! but there's something about you.. i feel like i need to. like i have to. i can't stop thinking about you."

"well, you don't. i can fend for myself."

"i never said you couldn't. is there anything wrong with me being nice to you?"

"yeah, actually. you're ashton irwin, you're an asshole. how do i know you aren't gonna cut the whole nice guy act after i stop avoiding you?"

"you're just gonna have to trust me."

hunter scoffed.

"give me a chance. please." ashton practically begged. "i don't want you to have this image of me in your head as simply being nice to have sex."

she thought for a minute. she really didn't want to, but what was life without taking chances? "fine."

"alright, great, so i'll pick you up at seven?"

"wait, what?"

"for our date. wear something nice. mom is having this charity event, and i need the most beautiful girl there by my side."

and before she could protest, ashton gave her a wink and headed outside.
