Sorry it's been so long! I have had a terrible case of writer's block, and even though I knew what I wanted to happen in the story, I couldn't quite put it into words.

A few more announcements-I will be trying to update my other stories, and I may be adding a few more ideas to my collection. I know I know, I should be working on the others, but it's so hard to not share my other ideas. :D

So anyway, here's chapter seventeen! I hope you like it! Vote/comment and let me know any suggestions or what you like so far!

Chapter Seventeen

Eternity

There is much in life that makes me sorry as I journey

down life’s way.

And I seem to see more pathos in poor human

Lives each day.

I’m sorry for the strong brave men, who shield

the weak from harm,

But who, in their own troubled hours find no

Protecting arm.

I’m sorry for the victors who have reached

success, to stand

As targets for the arrows shot by envious failure’s

hand.

I’m sorry for the generous hearts who freely

shared their wine,

But drink alone the gall of tears in fortune’s

drear decline.

Sorry-Ella Wheeler Wilcox

I gripped the rusty iron bars of Bluze’s cell until my knuckles were white and searched my brain for a much needed a plan. I had gotten myself into this mess; I could get out of it. Bluze’s teary eyes stared right back into mine, holding my nervous gaze. Footsteps sounded behind me and I dove into the shadows for safety.

The sound of metal grating against metal screeched in my ears as a guard slid a tray of food into Bluze’s cell. He slammed the bars shut again and locked it. Bluze stepped forward tentatively and picked at the stale bread. I stepped back in front of Bluze’s cell as the guard disappeared around the corner.

“Why are you in here?” I whispered to Bluze. She stepped closer to the bars to whisper back.

“They found out I was associating with a human.”

“Who did you…oh.” It hit me square in the chest. It was my fault she was here. How could I have done that to her? I needed to be more careful-I had enough messes to clean up at the moment.

Bluze stepped away from the bars and sat on the dirty cot in the corner. I grimaced. This place was disgusting. “Don’t worry Bluze,” I whispered to her, “I’ll get you out of here.” I bit my lip and twirled a wavy lock of hair around my finger as the habit kicked in. I looked all around me for the keys in case the guard didn’t take them with him. He did. I sighed and turned back to Bluze. “I just have to find the keys first.”

I hid in the shadows again and made my way down the dim hall. Muffled groans and voices flooded the air around me; I winced with each cry and tried to block it out. I was probably going to have nightmares after this.

I turned the corner and almost tumbled down a staircase. I caught myself on the slim railing and peered down below me. The staircase was short, only about five steps, and it led to a den-like room. It must be where the guards stayed. Sure enough, the burly man who fed Bluze earlier was down there with one other.
