"Steven!" Peridot shouted. "Hurry up, you're going to be late!"
"Coming!" He shouted back. Steven was in his room, packing up brand new school supplies in his new backpack. He put in crayons, a pencil case, and his stuffed dog. He turned to face the mirror that stood on the wall by his closet, and fluffed up his hair. He put on his backpack as he looked in the mirror. Pumping his chest out, he tried to pull off a confident look He put his hands on his hips, and walked around the range of the mirror.
"Steven!" Peridot shouted again.
He shot back into reality, and quickly headed downstairs. He saw Pearl finishing up making his breakfast in the kitchen. She cooked up an omelet with a side of strawberries and buttered toast. It was a special breakfast for him, because it was a special day.
He quickly sat down on the stool, with the help of Peridot, and started eating. When Pearl was fetching his syrup, she noticed he was eating rather swiftly. "Steven," she said. "One bite at a time, please. Don't over stuff yourself."
He gulped some food down, and started to pour syrup on his omelet. "Sorry, Pearl, I'm just really super excited today!"
"I guess there's no reason not to be." Peridot said. "You're getting an education, you're meeting new kids, and you're going to new places. There are multiple factors where your day could go wrong, but it is the first day, so I won't tell them to you. For now."
"Thanks, Peridot." He smiled.
"Are you almost ready, kid?" Jasper asked.
Steven finished up his breakfast, and was let down off the stool by Peridot. He put on his backpack, and said confidently, "Ready!"
"Hold up there, jaunty, I need to get your lunch." Pearl opened up his backpack, and tucked his lunch inside. She noticed he had Spark in his backpack. "Steven, are you taking Spark with you?" She asked questioningly.
"Yes, Spark is my buddy. He follows me wherever."
"Are you sure about taking him?"
"Super positive! I just wanted a little piece of home to take with me."
She shrugged, and zipped his backpack up. "Alright, just don't lose him."
"I won't," he said reassuringly. Then, he ran over to the door and put his black high tops on. Before he walked out the door, the Gems joined him, and they all walked to his school together. The late summer was taking its last few breaths of wind as the fall was nipping through the air. The temperature was warm and playful outside with a gentle breeze. Steven skipped down the pavement merrily as they headed into the town.
They soon arrived at a long building that read Coastwood Elementary in bold, red letters. The school stretch a fair size when they walked up to it. On one side of the school, Steven saw a bark playground with slides, swings, and monkey bars. There was a gray jungle gym, and small tunnels that he pictured himself in, having a blast. On the other side of the school was just a plain yard. It was grass filled, had a few trees, and the whole ground was flat.
When Steven and the Gems walked through the door, he felt a tense knot wounding up in his stomach. He suddenly felt the urge to stand still, and not go any farther. However, he pushed his nervousness aside, and marched on.
The hallway they walked down stretched to the back of the yard. On either sides of the hall, there were doors decorated with fun stickers, outlines, and signs of the teachers names. Cork boards hung empty in place on the walls, but they still had things saying, art, science, or our classroom on the top. The hall was empty, but you could still hear the laughter and loud talk coming fro the classrooms.
