Steven was now getting into his routine of getting ready for school in the morning. He had to get into habits, which were sometimes tedious for him, but it was a cycle he was getting used to. He packed his backpack, ate breakfast, and walked to school with the Gems. The stares they were getting were still there, but the commotion was beginning to die down.

Steven walked into the school, and said goodbye to the Gems. As usual, kids were playing before the bell. Instead of joining the other kids, Steven just sat at his assigned table. He didn't feel like playing, and figured the other kids wouldn't want him playing with them. So, what was the point? He didn't sit alone, at least. He always had his faithful friend, Spark.

He placed his on the table, and patted his soft fabric. "At least you're here, Spark." Steven whispered. He came closer to the puppy's ear. "Do you think I'm an alien?"

In Steven's mind, Spark responded with a happy bark. That meant, I don't think you're an alien. I think you're the greatest friend I've ever had!  He gave the puppy a hug, and continued to bury his face in the stuffed animal. He was embarrassed of the tears that were currently coming down his cheeks.

It wasn't long before the bell rang for class, and everyone took their assigned seats. Jonathan came back to the table to find Steven with his head down on his stuffed pup. He tapped him lightly on the head. "Steven?" He called.

He looked up a Jonathan for a quick second, then looked back down, trying to hide his tear stained eyes. He quickly wiped them with his hands, and looked back at him. "Sorry, Jonathan."

Jonathan noticed the bandage on his cheek, and knew what it was from. "Kyle knocked you down pretty hard, huh?" Steven nodded his head. "Well, it wasn't your fault, but it wasn't his either." Steven didn't look at him, and sat in an uncomfortable silence for a while. He was upset, but guilt overweighted him. Jonathan recognizes his look, and said with sympathy, "I'm sorry about Kyle." Steven looked at him again, finding the apologetic tone in his voice. He continued. "He's my best friend, I've known him for a while now. He can be pretty bossy around some people." He looked down in a pitiful way. "I just don't know what to do, though." Steven could barely see something sparkling down his face. It looked like a tear had escaped his eyes. He quickly wiped it, and looked back up at him. "Listen, if you ever have trouble with Kyle, just tell me. You can even go to Lucas, Benjamin, or Cecil. Don't worry, I'll let them know."

"Will you let Kyle know?" Steven asked.

Jonathan fell silent, knowing what he meant. he stuttered, "I-I..." He felt fear nipping at him. It was such a weird feeling to have towards a friend, but it was even more strange to let someone know he was afraid. "He's not going to back down. It's better if we just help defend you."

Steven was worried on his truth of word. "How long to we have to keep this up?"

"Don't worry," He said, finding his confidence again. "We'll be right here for you."

Steven smiled, having a little more faith in him. Although, as much as he continuously said he wasn't, he was certainly acting like a friend in Steven's eyes.

"Good morning, boys and girls!" Mrs. Malery chirped.

"Good morning, Mrs. Malery!" echoed the class.

"I have some very special activities planned today!" She beamed. "We'll be getting into some activites of our own, but we'll be moving to a different classroom later today!" Some of the kids gasped in awe at the news. "Today, we'll be learning about music when we go to the other class." The kids were excited, and bustled around, talking about the things that could happen. She had to settle the kids down, before she could say anything else. "I know you're excited, but we still have some things of our own to do. Katie and I will pass around your first worksheet for the day."
