"Steve..?" Billy calls out to the empty room. He gets off the bed and heads to the door but stops short in his tracks. What, he thought, as he looked in the space between the bookshelf and the door hinges. He could swear that stupid bat steve kept was there before he went to bed. He makes nothing of it and continues on his way, his next stop being the bathroom. He calls out and knocks twice before entering. It's empty. He continues on his way down the hall to the stairwell. He quietly creeps down the stairs before stopping at the bottom and taking in the sight before him.
Steve is there, slumped over asleep in a chair in front of the front door. The nail bat from earlier was just somehow still in his grasp. He slowly approached him. "Steve." He said very quietly as he tried to slip the bat out of his grip. Unlike earlier, however, it didn't take a lot to wake him up. Steve's eyes snapped open glued to the door. He snatched the bat back from Billy before raising it and scanning all the walls and windows. Before his eyes finally fell on billy.
Steve's pov
Shit. I quickly search my brain for a reasonable excuse for being down here in this state.
"What the hell Harrington!" Billy explained back up with his hands up, probably since I almost hit him in the face with the bat.
He's scared of me.
Maybe that's good, maybe if he is scared of me he can stay away, and stay safe.God, I am crazy. How the hell am I going to explain why I was down here this late like this, with the bat. I defiantly can't tell him. I know billy confided in me but this was different. It involves more people's lives than just mine. Besides he'd probably think I am crazy anyway.
I can still feel my heart beating like crazy as I meet Billy's eyes. The concern is evident there and suddenly feel guilt for making him worry about me. It's my job to worry.
"I..I, um-" I stammer.
"Steve," Billy says, "WHAT is going on." He looks at me intensely.
Before I could answer I hear a loud crow outside of one of the windows. I jump before raising my bat again. "Woah, woah! Lower that bat Harrington!"
Billy said, his hands going up protectively again. He glances at the window before turning back to me. "It's just a bird," he says "must have been the one I saw earlier." He mumbles that last part to himself.3rd POV
Wow, I really am going crazy Steve thought to himself. He broke down in tears dropping the bat to the ground before collapsing to his knees. "Steve" Billy said, his voice filled with pity, which only cause Steve to cry out more. He really was pathetic. Billy bent over and picked Steve up bridal style, carrying him to the couch. He sat them down and pulled Steve on top of him. Almost cradling him as he continue to cry. He was shaking and sobs racked his body. Billy had never seen steve like this, or at least to this extent. Billy pulled himself closer as he felt Steve's grip on his shirt tighten. And there they stayed until the fell asleep.
I know this chapter is short but I promise the story will pick up soon. This one is a bit of a slow burner.
