Emma
"Emma! Wake up or else-"
I was still snoring in my bed. Nothing would wake me today, it was a Sunday and nobody would come here to bother me. That sheep was still jumping lazily in my head, prompting me to continue my listless snoring, bleating as it shitted all around the place.
Oh, what a wonderful scene. I stared dreamily as it turned, galloping as any sheep should not, bleating noisily, then trampling onto my sore excuse of a face.
"What the-" I woke up abruptly. "That's not polite," I said, turning around to chide the sheep, but it wasn't there. I was in my bedroom, hair a tousled mess, bedsheets strewn around the room like an ostrich's nest. Turning, I stared at the clock, who was glaring at me, accusing me of not fully utilising its purpose as my brain did a full spin and got electrocuted awake.
8 am.
"HOLY-" I yelled. "WHY DIDNT YOU WAKE ME UP SOONER? OH MY GOD-"
"Shut that filthy mouth of yours and get down here!" I didn't care to hear her yell her words as I raced to collect my clothes, toothbrush and toiletries, tidying myself up with lightning speed. Cursing at my clumsiness, I mentally smacked myself for letting myself dream too powerfully the last night. It had always been sheep that had infiltrated my mind. Dragging the clothes down onto myself, I scrubbed forcefully at my teeth, who was no doubt going to bleed from my ruthlessness.
"Well someone's late isn't she?" I heard that infuriating voice as I hurriedly got out of the toilet. Looking up, I glared at the speaker, not once stopping my frantic actions to get ready for school. Saph, my older sister, was grinning that annoying smirk on her face, toying with her neatly coiled hair, looking like Medusa trying to go on a non-existent fashion show. If I weren't late, I would smack that smirk off her, tug at those coils and send her screeching away. Then get into a catfight and make the day worse than it already was.
"Get your breakfast, your bag, your books, your wallet- don't forget your wallet!" Mom called from the kitchen. But I had already grabbed the pickled cucumber sandwich from the hideous antique China plate that Mom stubbornly refused to throw away and threw it into my mouth, its contents dripping out onto the floor as I dashed out of the door.
I was already a few centimetres away from home as a constant ringing started sounding in my ears. I stopped for a moment, pondering if I had missed something. Nah. Dismissing the idea, my feet got started up again as I bolted for the maddeningly far away school. Mum had to choose a far elite school. She must have wanted to build up my flabby muscles. As the gap between the house and I increased, I could hear Saph cackling with bemusement as Mom complained about the mess I made fading away into the distance.
Pickled cucumbers could make anyone's day.
I ran, soles tearing from the mass friction and munching on my disgusting pickled sandwich at the same time. I was already panting and heaving and sweating like a pig when I stopped for a moment's rest. Holding my half-eaten sandwich in front of me, I cringed at the soaking bread and threw it into the nearest bin, hurrying on my way.
Skidding to a halt in front of the infamous gate for latecomers, I sighed in defeat, looking up. I was expecting another prefect to berate me for my lateness. However, my expectations weren't met as my eyes grew wide and met the prefect on duty's eyes, watching them pop out of his eye sockets.
