𝘐𝘛 was a warm day in July when Marla and her best friends, Lynn and Georgia, had decided it was the perfect opportunity to go to their favorite hangout spot in London, right in the heart of the city. As she was lying on the grass in the middle of the other two, she remembered everything they had experienced here together. They had discovered this spot when they were seven and out playing an afternoon in the summer. It had quickly become the best place to go to and they had lots of memories that they associated with the place. It was so calm that Marla could hear the crickets chirping and the birds sing their tune. It almost felt like the world was standing still.
That is, until Lynn decided to jump up, startling Georgia and making her spill her drink, which she had just tried to take a sip out of while being in a lying position, all over herself. "For heaven's sake, Lynn, what's gotten into your mind?", the now completely agitated Georgia exclaimed while taking out a tissue to try and get at least a bit of the very sticky lemonade off of her shirt and shorts, although she wasn't really making progress. Marla couldn't help but laugh, which earned her a glare from Georgia, but that only resulted in her having an even worse laughing fit and shortly after Lynn and even Georgia couldn't contain their laughs anymore. Soon enough they were all rolling around in the grass, clutching their stomachs.
They needed a good five minutes to calm down, as they had tried to be serious again several times before, but that only resulted in them looking each other in the eye and it all started over again. When they were finally sitting straight up again, Marla spoke up:"Was there something you wanted to tell us, dearest Lynn?" "Ummm, oh, yeah, thanks for reminding me, I would've forgotten that now. I just had the sudden desire to eat some ice cream. Wanted to ask if you also wanted some, y'know.", Lynn replied. "Sweet Jesus, Lynn, are you ever full? I've never seen anyone eat as much as you." "I mean, Georgia has a point, but I'm always up for some ice cream. You coming too, Geo?" "Yup."
And soon they were on their way to the best ice cream shop in town. Halfway there, Marla saw a stone wall, which was barely short enough for her to be able to climb onto it. They continued their way, walking above the other pedestrians. It all went good until Georgia decided it was a good idea to tell jokes while balancing on the slim top of said stone wall. At one point, a joke brought Marla to laugh so hard that she lost balance and slowly began to fall. Lynn and Georgia were just standing there, paralyzed and shocked over the situation.
A thousand thoughts were running through Marla's head. Would she survive that? What was she thinking, of course she would, the wall was barely 170cm tall. But what if she fell badly onto her neck? Would it break? She had the urge to slap herself, why was she thinking of such horrid scenarios? Time felt slowed down while she fell and just closed her eyes. She didn't even want to think about how much pain she would be in. But instead of the hard ground she had expected to land on, she felt arms wrapping around her, preventing her from a bad crash with the floor.
She slowly opened her eyes. The first thing she saw were blue eyes with a concerned look on them. They were framed by the most beautiful face she had ever seen, the guy had blonde hair and the smallest hint of a beard. In her opinion he had kind of had a baby face, but a very handsome baby face. Then the faces of her friends appeared in her sight, first Lynn's still shocked one, then Georgia's, which had a mix of shock and amusement in it. Typical Geo, Marla thought. Georgia had always been like that, if nobody got hurt and she wasn't the person that something happened to, she was the first to laugh and joke about it.
