Grams cooked us her classic lasagne dish, it involved the most gorgeous homemade pasta with the local farm shop cheese which melts in your mouth. The smell of it bounced around the room infecting you into a hypnoctic state where you just couldn't help but drool.
Taylor gave me a look from across the table as if to remind me of our deal. I made a small gesture back to show him I remember. He scoffs the food down like a dog licking up the leftovers, making sure he got every last inch of the meal. Grams looked at me confused moving her finger around her head as if to say he was crazy. I look back at her with a smile and silently laugh.
'Done! Can I go now?' Taylor spat rapidly at Shesscintle whilst sorting his knife and fork into a neat finished position.
'Not just yet, remember it's Charlotte's first meal here with us and we want to make her feel welcome.' She nods her head towards me, turns back to Taylor and shows him a stern look.
'She's a slow eater though' he muttered under his breath. I ignored it and carried on eating my food.
After dinner Grams asked us if we wanted any pudding such as custard or ice cream. Taylor gestured at me to say we didn't have time, you could tell he was desperate to go and find this man he was talking about. I reluctantly declined even though I was craving something sweet. Grams asked us if we wanted to do a puzzle together in the living room or watch some TV but Taylor told her we were planning to hang out upstairs and organise my room. I could tell this made Grams upset but I had already promised Taylor I would come with him and if I didn't he would keep annoying me the whole summer and I was not going to let that happen.
We left and made our way upstairs to my room.
'So how are you planning to escape?' I asked Taylor sarcastically knowing he didn't think this through.'You mean how are we planning to escape? Well I haven't quite figured out the minor details yet but I was thinking we wait until Shesscintle falls asleep whilst watching TV and then we climb out of this window and make our way into the woods.' He pointed to the singular, tiny window at the end of my room whilst explaining his very quick and 2D thought process making out he was a mastermind.
'And what happens if she wakes up and comes and checks on us?' I ask him, secretly smirking inside.
'Then we simply use the old pillow technique. We gather our pillows and stuff them under our bed sheets so she thinks we're sleeping and leaves because she doesn't want to disturb us.' He told me proudly. It was the oldest trick in the book but it just might work considering it will be dark and Grams has bad eyesight.
Charlotte asks him her second proposal. 'And what do you suppose we do if it rains?' I ask curiously.
'We bring an umbrella, I'll check the forecast. Although I'm fairly sure it won't rain' he answers confidently.
'In the dark, how will we find our way back home? And how are we meant to find someone we don't even know what he looks like or where he is.' I ask him yet another question. 'Also I am not climbing out this window, I could easily break a bone.'
'Calm down, you won't die from fall damage. Plus it's not even high, there's literally a climber that we can hold on to as we go down. And as for the dark, I'll just use a torch and a map.' He says still with confidence and admiration of his plan, knowing he has actually outsmarted me. 'Plus I'm just going off hope here, he can't be too hard to find considering my friends have done it.'
'Like you even know how to use a map.' I laugh at him.
'Then I'll learn, we've still got time.'
