"TIME TO WAKE UP SLEEPYHEAD! GO AND GET'CHA FEET OFF THE BED! BIRDS ARE CHIRPING SUN IS SHINING GET TO SCHOOL AND STOP YOUR WHINING!" The song played over and over again, Valerie grunted and regretted the desicon on setting that loud song as an alarm to her phone, but she eventually realized that the song is effective for waking someone like Valerie.

She took a bath and got ready, rushing downstairs towards the kitchen to pour a bowl of cereal with milk, then cooked a porridge for Granny Jo. She finished the cereal right on time as the porridge was ready, and sprinted to Granny Jo's room to give her breakfast.

Granny Jo was already awake, reading a book on her bed, "Oh, hello darling."

"Morning, Granny. Here's a porridge I made for you." Valerie placed the porridge on the table next to Granny Jo's bed.

"Thank you, Valerie." Granny Jo put away her book and looke into the porridge, "It smells wonderful."

"Enjoy, Granny." Valerie smiled and took a spoon of the porridge, holding it up to Granny to feed her. Granny Jo ate a spoonful and widened ger eyes, "Wow that's delicious. You're getting better and better, dear."

Valerie giggled, feeling very proud of her self. All of the sudden, there was a pause of silence. The morning began to feel serious.

"Valerie, I need to talk to you about something." Granny Jo held Valerie's hand.

"What is it, Granny?"

"I think you spent to much on worrying me, Valerie. You need to focus more on your self."  She said in a gentle, soft voice.

"What do you mean, Granny? I can take care of you and myself all at once."

"Don't lie to me, Valerie. I saw your report cards yesterday when you're out working, your grades are failing and luckily I didn't forget about that today." She explained, "I don't want you to throw away your future like that because of me."

"Don't worry, Granny, I'm fine." Valerie insisted.

"You're not, Valerie. Stop saying that you're fine, when you have to give up your youth to work for money and fail classes to take care of a forgetful old woman."

"Granny, don't say that. I'm happy I get to take care of you."

"But I'm not, dear." Granny Jo shook her head, "You are a smart kid. You deserve better. You need a youth life and go out with your friends."

Valerie stared at Granny Jo with watery eyes. She didn't know what to say.

"Stop saying you're fine, Valerie. You're not as tough as you think. You still need someone to lean on." Granny Jo continued, "...and Gilbert also volunteered to take care of me, so you don't need to force yourself and invest every second of your time for me. All I ask, is for you to focus on your studies. You don't need to give me the best grades, but I want you to do your best on living your young life. Can you do that?"

"Yes, Granny." Valerie answered, hugging Granny Jo with tearful eyes.

"Good girl. Now that's my granddaughter." Granny Jo stroked Valerie's hair. "Now, go to school and don't worry about me. I'll  be fine. Gilbert's gonna be here any second."

Valerie nodded and waved goodbye to Granny Jo. She wiped off her tears and dried her face, stepping outside her house to feel the warm sunshine greeting her day.

Gilbert arrived in front of her house, waving hello to Valerie. Gilbert gave a pack of lunch to Valerie who then thanked him. Valerie trusted Gilbert and told him to take care of Granny Jo as best as he can, which he replied with "I will."
