"What? Why not?" Valerie protested, raising her voice.
Mr. Carl sat on his exclusive chair and staired through the giant window (more like a glass wall) on the back of his desk, revealing the football court where the P.E. class took place. He sighed, "You've skipped up to four classes every week and not to mention your grades in the red radar, a sign that you can barely even graduate. Not you want to sign up to a competition which carries the good mame of Bright Academy?"
"What if I win-"
"-and what if you loose?" Mr. Carl cut her off. "You didn't only waste time, which should've been used for making up to the class-ditching stunt you pulled off, but you also will tear our high standards reputation."
He took a gold medal from his desk and held it up to in front of his face, letting the sun shine from the window reflect to it and in to the room, "Look at this, Matthew's medal. It is an honor to our school, pride. Matthew will be taking the place for the math olympiad, and he is the most suitable student to do so. For that, you don'thave to compete."
"So you're not going to give me a chance?" Valerie said in a soft voice.
"Go make up for your classes and study the su jects you were left behind, Valerie. Don't rush into another problem when you haven't fixed your study problem yet." Mr. Carl said, "That's all I have to say. You can go now."
Valerie nodded and rushed outside in disappointment. She closed the principal's office door and kicked the locker accross it. She took a deep breath, calming her nerves and reached for her phone,
Not allowed to.
She sent the text to Jenna and rushed to her next class, Biology.
As she opened the door, Mrs. Wonder approached to her and hit her head with a ruler, "What time is it now?"
Valerie moaned in pain as she reached to her phone to look at the time, "9.30", she stroked her head where it hurted.
The whole class was giggling at her, enjoying the scene where a killer teacher is yelling at a troublemaker student.
"You're thirty minutes late. What's your excuse this time?"
"I went to the principal's office."
"Do you think I'd believe in that?"
"You can ask Mr. Carl himself." Valerie argued, making Mrs. Wonder drag her outside the class.
"Lift your right leg and stay that way. You're not allowed to go inside my class or anywhere else."
"I thought Mr. Carl told me to attend classes more often, I can't believe that you're kicking me out-"
"Silence!" Mrs. Wonder raised her voice. She pointed at Valerie's foot, leading her no choice but to lift it and stand on one foot like a crane. "Stay that way until class is over."
Mrs. Wonder rushed back in to her class and slammed the door. Everybody inside who eavesdropped and peeked outside ran back to their seats.
Valerie sighed, speaking to herself, "Another day, another trouble."
She groaned, feeling the sore in her feet that hasn't stopped since yesterday, which has gotten worse bacuse of the punishment. She held the excruciating pain in her ankle that felt like it's going to break somehow.
Valerie could had just stood normally while Mrs. Wonder was not looking, but she isn't that kind of person. She is committed to what she do and accepts her punishment wholeheartedly. She decided to keep standing on one foot for the rest of the half hour.
