The team had made it to the forest and had begun searching for any clues, anything that could tell them what happened five years ago.
It wasn't until they were about to give up searching for the day when Artemis quite literally fell through a hidden tunnel that brought her to a heavy duty steel door, and as she stood up Artemis noticed an odd shaped piece of metal was lying haphazardly on the ground.
She bent down to pick it up and was shocked to find that it was some sort of metal name tag that had been horribly corroded, 'team. I found something,' she said into the mind link and everyone soon made their way to her.
"This isn't supposed to be here," Batguy said as he looked up from his hologlove and Artemis handed him the name tag. "I found that on the ground, maybe you know a way to figure out who's that was."
BG frowned and turned the metal over in his hands to inspect it, "that's weird. This doesn't appear to be normal metal, if it was regular steel this would be too rusted to hold without it crumbling. It must be some sort of gold or silver composite, nothing else could've held up so well."
Wally frowned, "but who could possibly have a name tag made out of a silver composite? Those are really expensive and I've never seen anyone wear one except for politicians and rich business owners," and Artemis frowned. "What about the door?" She asked and they all glanced at it, "there's a large room on the other side of it. I can't make much out, but it appears to be a lab of some sort." Connor said and Wally frowned, "but who would need a lab this remote?"
"Someone who doesn't want to be found," Batguy said and he nodded to Connor and the clone made easy work of the door, simply ripping it off the hinges and tossing it aside. They walked inside and stumbled around in darkness until the lights suddenly came to light and they hissed as they were blinded, "sorry." Wally said and they sighed, "warning next time." Connor grumbled and the speedster nodded, but then he gasped.
"Umm guys, I think we hit the jackpot." He said as he pointed to something behind them all, and they all turned to look at what he meant only to gasp in shock as they found a board filled with information on Richelle Wayne and one not too far away from it with the Gotham dam's blueprints.
"I can't believe it," Artemis breathed and Megan flew to the board and stared at the pictures and notes on the young girl, "she's so young."
Then Wally tripped over a corpse and fell into a desk and a file was knocked off and it landed by Batguy's feet, "way to go kid klutz." The boy muttered before he bent down and picked up the file, he then frowned and then opened it up to read.
"Guys, listen to this." He suddenly said and they all got closed to listen to the teen wonder as he read whatever interested him from the file, "our plan to destroy the Gotham Dam was a success. However I do regret that it had happened on a day when children were visiting it, for while I have no qualms killing adults, I absolutely loathe harming children.
When I had learned that the heiress to the Wayne fortune had been caught in the blast I immediately sent my men to recover her body, whether she be dead or alive. Perhaps I can use the girl as a means to accomplish my goal, perhaps she is the key to bringing down the Gotham Elite and all the world leaders."
He then looked up and they all wore matching looks of horror, "that man is a monster." Wally breathed and Kaldur nodded, "to use a child in such a way after causing such destruction. I cannot even imagine what he was like," he said and then Artemis picked up the next file.
"Listen to this one; it's been two days since the Dam was destroyed and I am pleased to learn that my men have located the girl." They all gasped and Wally grabbed the file from Artemis and began reading it, "she was found partially buried underneath pieces of the dam. The child was miraculously still breathing and my men have informed me that she is relatively uninjured, the only injury concerning them being the burns that now cover her back and a deep gash that still is bleeding on her arm.
