At the tower doors, I saw a group of servant girls talking when I approached. They smiled my way and I smiled back and entered my room. I closed the door and leaned against it. My room was simple with a wooden bed with a thin red blanket on it. A small window next to it and a dresser with a cracked mirror. I walked over to the dresser and looked into the mirror. What I saw was a boy that didn't look like me. He had dead straight black hair that covered his ears and emerald eyes. He had light skin that looked like it only saw the sun twice. I saw the cloth that covered my eye. I bit my lip, wondering if I should take it off or not. I decided to take it off and leave it off until morning.
I unwrapped it and saw the scar still bloody be not as bad. The scar started at my brow and ended at my cheekbone. I stared at that eye for a long time. I thought of the time before Asher slashed his knife at it.
I remembered that one of the servant boys that was about my age or younger saw my chance to escape. I told him that I've wanted to run away for a long time. He saw it then I took it. We were supposed to be cleaning the courtyard early in the morning and saw the guards not paying attention to us. I ran to a secret hole where no one knew about it.
I climbed into bed with my boots on and laid there, looking at the stars outside my window. I wondered what my mother and father were doing at this time. My mother was probably sleeping after a hard day's work or searching for my father, who would probably be dead or captured by pirates, according to her note that she left. Maybe she's at a pub getting drunk, not thinking about her son who she gave up. I closed my eyes and fell into dreamland.

I was already awake when there was a knock at the door. I yelled at them to go away but the door opened and there stood Medina. I sat up and rubbed my eyes while she poured water in a bowl on my dresser. It was first light, where the sun was starting to wake up.
"Why so early?" I asked her, laying back down. I turned to face the wall to go back to sleep. I heard footsteps coming towards me and jumped when she poured water on my face. "What was that?" I shouted. The water stung my eye and I covered it with my hand. Medina's face looked scrunched up with all her wrinkles and small hazel eyes. Her bright red hair was curly and out of control.
"Arak, you were supposed to be up a few hours ago." she said. Her tone of voice did not sound friendly. "And you're supposed to be going into the village to get Kan's sword and food for the ball tonight." Oh, snap. I forgot about the ball. But I didn't know that I needed to go into the village.
I quickly grabbed the cloth that was on the dresser and began binding it around my head. I was about to head out the door when Medina said, "Oh, Arak." I turned around and she said, "Happy Sa'adi." I smiled and went out the door, thinking about tonight and me becoming a prince. And pirates were coming tonight also.
