It had been almost a month since Mötley Crüe had left for their Tour, and Maggie had shut herself in. She'd only leave her room when she had to, and many of her Therapy appointments would only consist of her saying 4 or 5 sentences. As for schooling, her teacher's had told Paul that she's a child prodigy. Maggie was already reading at a fifth grade level, and could complete multiplication tables up to 12's. However, Maggie didn't care. She didn't really care about anything.
Nikki hadn't called her since he left. She would receive calls from Vince and Mick twice a week, but Tommy called her almost every day. Maggie had quickly forgiven her Terror Twin, who was ecstatic about Maggie being a Prodigy. Paul and Gene were taking great care of Maggie, constantly keeping her distracted.
Paul came back almost every day with a new book for Maggie to read, and helped her with all of her work when she needed it. Gene helped her Master the Bass, as well as the Guitar with some help from Paul. Maggie was doing fine, but she clearly wasn't the same. The Maggie May they loved was currently on the road with Nikki Sixx, and the rest of Mötley Crüe. This Maggie was just a shell.
Maggie sat comfortably in the large windowsill that looked out over the front yard of the house. It was raining today, and she was reading the third book of the Dragon riders of Pern series. She had her headphones on, her Walkman playing her favorite mixtape that Tommy had given her. She felt the thuds, and vibrations from the upstairs where the guys were having a jam session. She smiled faintly as she began to get emerced into the book.
Just as Maggie got to the Tenth Chapter, when Menolly was going to face the Thread with her Dragon's, Paul waved his hand over her book. Maggie huffed, closing her book and pausing her Walkman. "Yes, my dearest idiotic mentor?" Maggie asked sarcastically, Paul smirked "Your Dad's on the phone. He wants to talk to you." Maggie sat there for a minute, processing, "You don't have to talk to him, Mags. I can tell him you're busy with school." Maggie shook her head, "No I'll talk to him, Thanks Paulie." Paul nodded, before handing Maggie the landline.
Maggie took a deep breath before clicking the unmute button. "Hello?" Maggie answered nervously, "Hey Maggie!" Nikki exclaimed, there was a small pause before Nikki sighed, "So Paul told me you're doing really well in school. Do you like it?" Maggie shrugged, looking at out her window, watching the droplets race down the glass, "Its okay I guess. Everything is really easy, I've started reading entire book series within a week. I'm starting to learn multiples of 13-15, and a bit of simple division." Maggie stated lamely, Nikki gasped slightly, "Wow Kid. That's amazing, I never knew you were that smart." Maggie tsked, rolling her eyes "Its just easy to me Dad, didn't you say mom was really smart too?" Nikki gave an airy laugh, "Yeah, your mom was a nurse working on her Doctorates when I met her. She was brilliant Maggie, just like you." Maggie smiled lightly at the thought of her being anything like her mom, her smile falling quickly as she remembered what happened to her mom. "Exactly, so it's not that surprising I'm kinda smart, or above average as my teacher always says." The both laughed lightly, "Hows touring, Dad?" Nikki sighed, "Draining. It would've been better with you here." Maggie snorted sarcastically, "yeah right." Nikki groaned, "Let's not argue about it Maggie. I know I messed up with leaving you behind, trust me Tommy gives me hell about it every day." Maggie giggled, "Good, Someone has to give you hell for me Dad." Nikki laughed, "I miss you babygirl. The road isn't the same without you to keep in line." Maggie felt a tear roll down her cheek, the droplet landing on the rough fabric of her Jean's, "I miss you too dad. I've been really worried about you, and I haven't slept well since you left." Nikki gently hushed her, his voice calming her anxious mind, "it's okay kiddo, everything is gonna be alright. Just be patient, and stay focused on your schooling. This tour will be over before you know it." The two talked for three hours, and When Nikki hung up Maggie felt lonely once again.
