A/N: I keep imagining this in multiple different scenarios so don't be surprised if you see this play out more than once.

Rose rolled over in bed and looked at the clock. Shit. Fifteen minutes before she was supposed to be at the gym for early morning training with Dimitri. She was running late.

Before she got up she laid in bed and stretched, and then immediately curled into a ball and moaned. After a moment she got up and walked to the bathroom hunched over.

Yep. Sure enough, there it was. Her period. With abso-fucking-lutely horrible cramps. She always got awful cramps but usually took pain medication. Out of the question now. She was already gonna be late and you weren't supposed to take that particular medication on an empty stomach. And nothing else actually worked. And to really cement matters, she gave the last of it to Lissa a couple days ago between classes, and had forgotten to pick up some more.

Rose dressed slowly, face twisted in pain the entire time. She hoped that after the dreaded running-which was going to be even worse than it normally was-Dimitri would have her work with weights and that they wouldn't be sparring today.

She should've known better.

It was bitterly cold outside as she walked swiftly to the gym, putting her in an even worse mood. She walked in five minutes late, dumping her gym bag on the floor. Dimitri barely glanced up from his Western novel as she started stretching. She knew what to do; it was routine by now. Still, Dimitri observed her over his book and noticed she seemed to be particularly unhappy today. Rose wasn't a morning person by any means, but she usually would talk to him, just casual conversation. But this morning was different.

He stood and caught her sleeve as she went to go run laps for a warm up. "Rose, are you okay?" he asked. She avoided eye contact and pulled her jacket from his hand.

"Yeah, just tired," she replied. Dimitri didn't believe her.

"Rose-"

"I'm fine," she snapped, marching out of the gym and letting the door bang shut behind her. Dimitri let it go with a sigh, deciding to wait until she was back to see if she was in a better mood.

Rose jogged around the track, clenching her teeth the whole time. Dimitri would always coach her against it, saying that was energy that should be used in her legs, not her jaw. But right now? She was in such pain that she didn't give a shit. Not that she ever did in the first place. The fact that it felt like she was in Antarctica at the moment didn't help either. She pushed back tears, gritted her teeth harder, and propelled herself forward to finish.

Dimitri was just about to go check on Rose, who had been taking longer than normal to complete her running when she reentered the gym, heading straight for her water bottle. He noticed her mood didn't seem much better. He hoped she'd perk up during practice. He knew that she loved sparring with people and testing her skills.

Rose walked over to where Dimitri was standing on the mat. Realizing that they were sparring today, the opposite of what she had hoped, she grimaced. Also because of a particularly painful twinge from a cramp. Ugh.

Of course, Dimitri caught her attempt to hide it. "What's wrong?" he asked.

"Nothing. I'm fine," she lied. He saw through it.

"You're lying," he stated. She rolled her eyes and put her hands on her hips.

"Fine. I have a headache," she answered. Dimitri's eyes softened in concern.

"Did you take pain medication?"

"Woke up late and didn't have time. Now come on. Are we sparring or not?" she asked. She really didn't want to, but she powered through it.
