Annabeth's POV

Today is the ceremony and I'm so nervous, what if my name gets pulled. What if he never wants to talk to me again OH NO what have I done? I could get picked or worse I have to MARRY my best friend!!! But is that the worst thing ever........ " YES," I mentally said to myself * Mentally facepalming* 

Percy went up to the stage and the crowd cheered. He smiled his signature lopsided grin, the one that made all the girls swoon for him. I rolled my eyes. He was handed a sheet of paper and began listing names.

"and last but not least, WAIT WHAT????," Percy says with shock.
I felt my heart sink as he read the last name.

"Annabeth Chase"

Apollo the host points the spotlight at me and says

" Well well well one of our selections are in the crowd," He says

So I stand up and all I can think is RUN what have I done Percy probably hates me now in fact he's he won't even look at me what have I done. * Mentally punches me in the face*

 I ran home as fast as I could. I burst into the threshold to see my stepmom and my dad waiting for me. Helen, my stepmother grabs a hold of my arm with her hand so tight I'm going to have a bruise and nail marks. If I haven't told you already she abuses me and hits me, but I put up with it because I know my dad won't believe me. He's a completely different person when she is around.
"Why did you join," My dad asks me.

All I could think was 

" I l-love him," I say, which is not true. I mean yeah I love him but not romantically, at least I don't think I do, WAIT WHAT??? Shut up, brain.

" Yeah right, you just don't want to move" Helen growled, twisting my arm tighter

" I don't think that's the case Annabeth doesn't lie " My dad says before I could answer which is probably a good thing because I probably would have flipped out on Helen. I felt a twang of guilt, though, for lying.

" Whatever, you're not going. I'm going to pack," Helen says rudely, releasing my arm.

"Wait it wouldn't hurt to let her go, I mean if they kick her out then we'll surely still love to have her," My dad says. "Plus," he continues in a softer tone, glancing at me as if he doesn't want me to hear, "we get compensated....................."

"Fine" Helen grumbles, "It's not like we'll miss her, anyways" My dad turns to me beaming, I don't think he heard the last part.

There's a knock at the door so I go to answer it. There's a lady at the door and she explains what I have to do and what I can't do and she asks me a couple of questions until she reaches the last one; 

"Are you a virgin" 

Ok, that disturbs me. There's an awkward silence.

"Yes, I am "I answer quietly then she hands my dad a check and tells me that there will be a limo in the driveway in about 5 minutes.
