Why I Did It

The next morning I woke up to an outfit on my bed and my bath started for me. I looked at the time and realized I still had an hour till breakfast so I decided I was going to get in the tub and read my book. I washed my hair and body and started reading when my maid zoomed in and told me to get out. I got out and started to get dressed, my maids were running around. I asked what the rush is and they told me that it's time for breakfast. I looked at the time and I realized I only had 5 minutes so I hurried up. When they finished my hair, I looked in the floor-length mirror on the wall. My hair was beautifully braided back, out of my face. I was wearing a long grey dress with silver off the shoulder straps. It was a long dress so I decided that I wasn't going to wear shoes. Another maid ran into the room, I didn't recognize her. She looked scared. She went over to my maids and spoke to them in a hushed voice.

"The rebels are still attacking the castle, we haven't subdued them yet," She said, glancing at me warily. "Keep the lady safe," She bustled out of the room.

Great. I sighed and pulled on some black leather boots, before slipping a small dagger into the one. I stepped out of my room and walked toward the mess hall for breakfast. Suddenly someone tapped my shoulder. I quickly grabbed my dagger and placed it to their throat only to realize that it was just Percy. Embarrassed, I quickly put it away and curtsied. He just laughed, I was so confused.

" I-I...... Sorry" I said quickly curtsied again and started walking away

" Annabeth, wait it's okay," he said

But I just kept walking and didn't look back which I realized was rude but I knew he would ask me questions. I knew I would have to answer them sooner or later but I didn't want to answer them. I reached the mess hall, I wasn't hungry but it was required for all the Selection girls to attend breakfast with the royal family. I bumped into someone, I looked up and realized this time it was the Princess, not the Prince.

"Princess Estelle!" I said with shock

"I'm so sorry," I said quickly and curtsied

She just laughed, I could feel the heat rising to my checks. I looked at my feet and she just hugged me and I hugged her back. We both started laughing, hard. Everyone was looking at us but I didn't care.

"What's so funny?" Someone asked.

I looked up and saw Queen Sally. I quickly let go of Estelle and curtsied.

"Oh you don't have to do that I'm only human" she said, smiling at me warmly.

I could feel the heat rising again as she laughed. I looked down at my feet so no one could see I was blushing. I could feel several pairs of eyes on my back, glaring, probably the other girls from the selection. But I didn't care as we all laughed together.

"Dear would you like to sit with us? Like you used to" Sally asked

"Really?" I was shocked.

"Yes really," someone said from behind me.

I whirled to see Percy. I rolled my eyes.

" Shut up Seaweed Brain I was talking to Queen Sally," I said playfully. Everyone got quiet he put his hand on his heart like I'd hurt him.

" How could you call me such a mean name," he asked

"Because you're a seaweed brain," I said in "duh" tone

I was already on the verge of laughing, and I could tell Queen Sally and Princess Estelle were too.

"Why are you being so mean to me" he whined

We burst out laughing and we didn't stop until Percy picked me up and threw me over his shoulder. I was so surprised I yelped, loud enough that all the conversations that were still going on stopped.

"PERSEUS JACKSON PUT ME DOWN RIGHT NOW" I yelled

He just laughed and I kicked him hard in the stomach, he put me down, wheezing. I judo flipped him and pinned him down with my dagger to his throat.

"If you ever do that again you're going to fight for your LIFE," I growled. I heard Queen Sally and Princess Estelle and King Paul, who I hadn't realized was there, all laughing at Percy and the shocked faces of the selected girls I got up and turned to face Queen Sally.

I would love to sit with you if it isn't a problem" I said

" I see no problem with that," she said, smiling.

We sat there for a while, laughing then Percy had to get to know the selected. One by one he called up the girls. I could feel the other girls glaring at me and heard them talking about me but I didn't care, I was having fun. Finally, he called my name, I was nervous but I didn't know why.

" w-h-why?" he said as I sat down. I couldn't help but laugh at his reaction.

" I only did it because my "family" was moving and I didn't want to leave you guys or the castle," I said

"Ok. why didn't you tell me?" he asked

" I don't know, I guess I was just scared," I said quietly

"Ok" was all he said.

We talked and laughed together until breakfast was over, seeing as I was the last one. I could see Estelle smirking out of the corner of my eye while looking at us while she was looking at us. I quickly turned to look at her, so she'd know I'd caught her. She stopped smirking when I glared at her. I've always been told I have intimidating eyes. She quickly turned away and I smiled internally. When breakfast was over Percy walked me to my room.

"See you, Seaweed Brain," I said

"See ya, Wise Girl" he said. Then he kissed my cheek. I could feel myself blushing and realized he was blushing too. He kissed my hand and we departed ways
