Chapter 1.3: The Proposition
"Will you be my girlfriend?"
My jaw dropped and my eyes widened at her words. I was so surprised that stayed quiet for a while.
Did I hear her right?
Then there was laughter.
She was laughing at me.
"What the..." I frowned at her mischief at my expense.
"I'm sorry... But you should see your reaction! It's priceless." She got up from our porch and walked towards me.
"Oh... " So it was just a joke. But why did I feel like disappointed? Does it because I was played or does it because deep inside, I wanted it to. "So it was just a joke... Ha ha ha... So funny." I dismissed any of my thoughts and laughed with her.
"Actually... I'm not joking." My laughter halted. "I'm really asking you to be my girlfriend."
"If you think that you'll get me the second time then you're wrong." I said nonchalantly.
"Okay..." She took a much-needed breath before explaining. "You said you wanted to make it up to me... for the coffee accident." I nodded. "Then that's all I need. I need you to be my girlfriend."
"But I don't even know your name." Did I hear myself clear? I'm having doubts in getting in a relationship with her because I don't even know her name? And not because of the fact that we're both girl? What the hell am I thinking?
"Hey relax and let me explain but will it be okay if we do it inside? It's kind of cold out here."
"Okay." I walked passed her and unlocked the door. "Would you like something to drink?" She nodded and I walked us towards the kitchen where she sat at the island table stool. "Water? Coffee? Tea? Juice?"
"Water's good." I took a bottled mineral water and a glass then placed it in front of her.
"So... You were saying?"
"Let me explain." She took a big gulp directly from the bottle, ignoring the glass. "I'm supposed to attend a family wedding and if I go back without a 'date' then my aunt would probably set me up with some guy that she wants me to marry. So in order to piss her off, I got an idea to bring myself a girlfriend."
"Okay... So you want me to be your pretend girlfriend?"
"Yes! Is there any problem?"
"Yeah... Well... I'm not gay." Am I really not? If I'm not then why am I not dismissing this crazy idea at this moment?
"Then much better!"
"Excuse me?" I asked confused and little offended.
"It's good that you're not gay. You won't fall in love with me and I won't be breaking your heart."
"Please explain further."
"Okay. You see... I'm don't really believe in love. I have never fell in love before. I had relationships before, with both gender but lately, I realized that I like women more. I hate commitment or relationship and the last girl that I went out with became so clingy. But with you being straight and all, then we're both safe."
I just stared at her while I try to absorb her words. In short, she's a bisexual that was a complete opposite of me. While I'm a hopeless romantic, she on the other hand does not believed in love.
"Do you think it's a good idea? I mean... I haven't been with a girl so I really don't know how."
"Just act normal as if I'm your boyfriend. It'll be easy."
