CHARLOTTE'S POV
My eyes snapped open.
I looked around; I was still lying on the couch. A million used tissues surrounded me. My hip felt raw and sensitive.
"Did I really go at myself again?" I wondered, letting my hand wander up to my hip.Ouch. Yes, I definitely had.
I heard my father's feet walking around upstairs, who knows when he got home.
I quickly sat up and tried to straighten myself out. I threw out all the tissues and washed off my hip at the kitchen sink. Deciding I would have to eat sooner or later, I put some pasta on the stove.
As my dinner cooked, I turned back to the TV. Same channel, except now some kind of Beatles interview was on.
Don't get me wrong, I was a fan of The Beatles, but having to look at Paul almost made it hard sometimes. I mean, come on. I could have been dating a rock star for crying out loud.
"So, lads, what are your hopes for the new album?" the interviewer asked them. Paul looked quick to respond.
"'Yesterday', for sure," he said, and the other boy nodded in agreement.
"Any particular reason you picked that one?"
The other Beatles seemed to glance at Paul nervously, and hesitation danced in his eyes for only a moment before his confidence reappeared, and he smiled.
"As a matter of fact, yes. If you don't mind, I think I'll start of by singing a bit."
A guitar was carried onto the stage for him, and he gingerly took it into his hands.
The other Beatles really looked worried now.
He cleared his throat, and began,
"Yesterday
Love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh I believe
In yesterday
Suddenly
I'm not half the man I used to be
There's a shadow hanging over me
Oh yesterday, came suddenly
Why, she, had to go
I don't know, she wouldn't say...
I said something wrong
Now I long, for yesterday...."
His voice sounded sweet and beautiful, and I thought the song sounded wonderful. But what he did next, I never expected.
"Charlotte, if you're out there watchin', this is for you. I miss ye, darlin'! Help me find you!"
I let out a gasp.
I could see the other Beatles behind him. George had let out a huge groan, and John had actually given himself a slap in the forehead. The interviewer quickly caught the opportunity to get in on some celebrity gossip.
"Ooh, who's this Charlotte girl? I'm sure the fans would love to know!"
Paul took a moment as he handed his guitar off and got back into his seat.
"She was a bird that I dated back in high school, but she broke me heart. I haven't been able to get over her."
The crowd "awwwed".
At this point, I was staring at the screen in disbelief, being brought back to reality only when I heard the boiling water for my pasta boiling over onto the stove. I rushed over to it, pulling my eyes away from the screen.
Paul had not only remembered me, but still loves me?
This has got to be a joke.
My mind raced as I considered the possibilities.
No, it could never work. How would I even find him? Besides, I'm too broken for a relationship right now...
