The sun was rising just over the mountains in the distance, the sky painted in a beautiful gradient of peach and violet, which later turned into a beautiful bright blue. It was sight that two hedgehogs were blessed to see every day in their new home at the outskirts of Mobïus. It had only been a week since their escape from the ARK, the place in which they were born and had to destroy.
Sonic sat on a ledge, peering out over the blue ocean as it stretched far across the horizon. It was breathtaking. A sight he never grew bored of. Of course, the water was the embodiment of evil and the spawn of Satan himself, which would explain why hell would be down below but that doesn't mean he doesn't like the view. It was relaxing, despite the many different images of how he could die out there popping up.
Anyway.
He heard footsteps approaching him from behind and he didn't need to look to know it was Shadow. After all, who else could it possibly be?
The ebony hedgehog sat beside him, joining in to watch the sun cast star-like gleams over the blue ocean for a moment. It was peaceful.
"Pretty view," Shadow said, leaning back on his hands as Sonic scoffed.
"You always say that," he replied, though not harshly. Besides, he agreed... though "pretty" could be considered an understatement for the view before them.
"Because it's true." Shadow looked at him, a small smirk playing on his face. "It's pretty, and it only gets prettier the longer we're here."
Sonic smiled and nodded slowly, turning his attention back to the ocean.
"Gotta compliment it, don't want it to have low self esteem. I get it," he laughed and then looked at Shadow again, elbowing him. "But I'm starting to get kind of jealous with the attention you're giving to the ocean rather than me."
Shadow raised an eyebrow and rolled his eyes, chuckling softly and shaking his head in mock disappointment.
"How unfortunate..." he mumbled, leaning his chin on his hand as he gazed at his azure partner. Sonic gaped at him, pretending to be offended.
"Shadow!" he cried. "You wound me with your words! I thought we had something!"
Shadow's smirk grew slightly.
"Like you said; had."
At that, Sonic huffed and stood up, taking it as his cue to leave. He turned on his heels to return to their small hut within the forest when Shadow grabbed his hands and pulled him back, placing him in his lap and holding onto him tightly.
"I didn't mean it," he mumbled, cheeks lightly dusted pink in embarrassment before he buried his face in Sonic's oddly soft quills. Sonic blinked and then giggled, hugging the ebony hedgehog.
"Aww, what a softy!~" he teased, poking Shadow's white, fluffy chest, causing him and huff in annoyance though he didn't make an attempt to move.
"You're a nuisance..." he muttered, only making Sonic smile.
"But I'm your nuisance!" he replied cheerfully. Shadow scoffed and pulled his face back from Sonic's head, a small smile on his face.
"Yes, I feel like I didn't have a choice in that, though." Shadow grabbed and pinched Sonic's cheek, making him whine in pain. "But I wouldn't have it any other way."
