Y/N and her brother sat in their beds, happily waiting for their mother. She walked into their room, smiling softly. "Are you ready for a bedtime story?" The pair nod in glee as she takes a seat in between their beds. "This is the tale of the Star-Crossed Lovers...
There once was a young celestial mage, no older than 17 years, who belonged to a guild called Fairy Tail. The young man was both handsome and kind. His first quest was to find a special key and return it to its rightful owner. Although the number of keys he had was sparse, he still took this quest, wanting to prove himself. He searched far and wide for the key, consulting many-a-mages before arriving at a dead end. Confused, he consulted one of his own spirits, a playful zodiac key who had a heart of gold. His name was Leo the lion, leader of the zodiacs. Leo gave him a spell to use, which would summon the key he so desired. The young mage agreed and sent his spirit home. Holding the spell in his hands, he read it aloud before the dead end. At first, it didn't work. He feared he had failed his first quest as he stared at the wall before him. Suddenly, the words began to jump off his page, and form a single word. He spoke the word aloud, "Nin!" He shouted. The paper flew out of his hands and folded itself into a key all on its own, as he watched in awe. The key floated into his hands, shiny and brand new. A note hung off the side of the key. "Free the queen." Was all it read. The handsome young man stared at the key. "Free the queen?" He questioned, "Free her from what?" He took the key to its rightful owner, gaining his respectable reward, but still the words gnawed at him. "Why free the queen?"
Soon, there was tale of a dangerous wizard, using his spirits for criminal deeds. It is said that the young mage, now 19 years old took up the mission to take down this terrible wizard. The glorious battle lasted three whole days before the vile villain was defeated. The evil mage's keys became the young mage's, except he gained only one key. The key from many years before, the key from his first quest. The key of Nin, the zodiac queen. The young mage studied the key, was it fate that he held the key once more? He consulted other spirits, trying to get answers. The only answer they gave was to call upon the queen and meet face to face. He decided to do just that. He held up the key and called, "Open, gate of the Zodiac Queen, Nin!". The key sparked, but no answer to his call. He decided it best to figure out this predicament another day.
For days upon days, he continued to call for this supposed Zodiac Queen, but still no answer. On the seventh day, he sought to give up for there seemed to be no answer no matter his effort. But there was an attack on his hometown. He and the other mages fought hard to fend off the offenders but could not defeat the dark guild that stood before them. His guildmates fell one by one, until he was the last one standing. He decided to call one last time. "Open, gate of the Zodiac Queen, Nin!". As if his prayers had been answered, the key sparked and flew out of the mage's hand. He watched in awe as a beautiful celestial spirit formed from this key and stood before him. "It is nice to meet you, master. How can I help you?" She bowed. "Why are you bowing to me? Aren't you a queen yourself? Shouldn't I be bowing to you?" He questioned, cowering backward. "Wait, no that doesn't matter right now. I need you to help me take down those guys over there. I can handle some of them myself, but I could really use your help." The mage explained. The beautiful spirit nodded and stepped forward to the squad of men before her. "Rise, my zodiac. Help me defeat this evil before me!" She called, and suddenly thirteen spirits stood behind her. "Lend me your powers, and together let us take down this evil!" She raised her hand, and a bright ball of magic levitated above it. "Release!" She called, and the magic ball fell upon the dark guild, taking those that are left with it. The spirits disappearing as the ball hit the ground. The spirit fell to her knees, too weak to stand. "Are you okay?" The young mage asked, rushing to her side. She could not respond as she fainted in his arms.
The young mage nursed her back to health, and love blossomed between the pair. "We cannot be together... I'm sorry." The young mage jumped back in surprise. "But why? What makes it so?" He asked, as he looked lovingly into her eyes. "We are of two different worlds; we just cannot be." The young mage did not take this as an answer, and soon their love blossomed into something more. Together, they held two beautiful twins in their hands, a baby girl and boy. But, just as exciting as this day of birth was, it was also a day of death. For on the twin's twelfth birthday, their mother would be no more. And they would be the new Twin Rulers of the Zodiac."
"I don't like that story." Y/N announced, just as Nina finished telling it. "Why not?" Her mother asked, as she tucked in Y/N's brother. "Well it isn't fair... to the twins." Her mother perked up at this. "How so?" She questions as she walks to her daughter and finishes tucking her in. "How come the twins have to take on this new role? They never asked for that, so why do they need to become the new rulers of the Zodiac? It's not very fair." Y/N replies as she looks up at her mother. "How do you think their story should have ended then?" Her mother looks lovingly at Y/N. "The twins should get to choose who they want to be. They should get to choose their own stories, just like you tell us everyday Mama." She looks up at her mother, eyes shining. "Maybe they will sweetie." Her mother pecks Y/N's head. "But this is none of your concern. For now, focus on getting some sleep." Y/N nods her head, finding it hard to keep her eyes open. "Alright Mama."
A/N: Hello again! This is the beginning to the rewrite of "The Twin Rulers of the Zodiac". Although this first chapter seems. unimportant, it will follow the story as the characters progress.
