It was called the ceremony of choice for a reason.
In our tenth year of life, our body, soul , mind and hearts were at their purest and we had formed the most clarity of who we were as we weren't really exposed to the harsh qualities of life.
You see every child , no every life form is born with a certain potential for magic.
We all have our place in the world and our magic is the very thing that defines that.
There are some who have the potential for very little magic , we call them Taya ,it means basic, they can perform small magic like cleaning and keeping the food warm or enhancing it's taste for instance.
Then we have The Veneras they are slightly gifted , the have the power to control their own abilities like becoming invisible , telepathy , foresight ect and lastly and the most rare of our kind is the Elementals , who control an elemant , this power is usually found in the royal blooded Ariyans or strong bloodlines in the nobility.
I remember my Ceremony of choice as if it happened yesterday , but then who could forget...
Dawn. The day of the Ceremony of Choice
I woke up soaking.
I opened my eyes in fury only to reveal my dadhi standing in front of me. I looked around only to find that I was naked in an tub of ice water. Instantly my initial fury was replaced by fear.
"Dadhi , I'm sorrry I was so tired ,dadhi", I protested softly
She said nothing and poured a bucket of hot water over my head , I got quite a shock and yelped from being exposed to two different temperatures. She could have easily kept the water a nice warm temperature but I knew she was furious.
Dadhi is my Madan's mother and also the most feared woman in our street ,it didn't matter that she was a Taya. If you displeased her , no matter whether you were right or wrong , then you would reap a punishment that all children feared , the infamous dreaded supper.
Oh the whole family would be served a wonderful meal and then you take one bite of yours and you'd feel like washing your insides with soap except Dadhi would be watching and this meant you'd have to swallow everything with a smile.
Worst part is that even if you weren't her family , if you knew her and you did something bad then your dadhi would known too and you'd experience the same punishment.
Anyways back to the story.
Here I was sitting in an ice cold bath while dadhi gave me the scrubbing of a lifetime , I'm pretty sure this is child abuse but no one even cared enough to come to my rescue.
Afterwards she left the room only to return with the sacred traditional white robes, it had been designed for me since I was born. (Each child has one with a unique design sort of like how you have unique DNA or unique fingerprints. It's basically the energy designs that your soul has.)
She sat me on a chair and proceeded to do the impossible :plait my curly long hair into a plait.
"As custom every child must wear an ancestral jewel and as the elder of our family I will hand it down to you" , she said in a tender voice.
I looked at her with uncontainable excitement that even she had to smile. She left my side for a moment and I wondered what I would get, would it be a bracelet or a neckless or even maybe earrings!
Suddenly Dadhi came back and handed me an intricately carved square box I opened it to reveal a golden circlet. Dadhi removed to and placed it on my head it had a golden sun that hanged from the middle and now rested against my forehead.
"It's beautiful," I said touching it softly.
Dadhi smiled and piched my cheek
As I ran out of the room I heard her say .....may the fates be in your favor now Adi
